Cochin Thread!!!

I saw Jamies Mottleds last weekend when I went to PU a LF Black Trio, they looked very nice! As did his Millies... It was a very impressive set up he has there, way nicer than my Redneck excuses for coops! Lets just say that building things is not one of my strengths!

Just trying to decide what color in bantams I want to do.

If your looking for something to work with i would do partridge, theres not alot of good quality partridge out there and you could learn alot from improving them . Thats going to be one of my projects someday

I agree partridge would be a very good color to work with. Also the gold and silver laced. These are all very rare to find in quality birds.

If I lived close enough to drive over and pick some up, I'd get a pair of Jamie's Bantam Brown-Reds. I just love the look of them (especially the hens; the black and orange coloring on their necks always reminds me of tiger stripes for some reason), and you hardly ever see them around.

I have to tell you Annarie, I have never liked the Blue Mottled so I've stayed away from them but these are gorgeous! Very very nice. I've always thought, in the past that the mottling looked washed out. But not so with yours. Now maybe I've just seen poor representations of Blue Mottleds but these are definitely the nicest I've seen!

Blue Mottled should look exactly the same as the black mottled only with blue where the black is. The pattern should be the same

Thank you, Laurie! I sure was surprised to find such nice birds so close to me! Just an hour away! I saw them and I did this:

I never really liked the Black Mottled color, just because I don't like the high contrast of the white mottling on the black (but I love the Columbian color pattern...go figure

), but I'd seen some Blue Mottled birds I really liked; the mottling looks so much softer and prettier on the Blue, IMO. This trio beats them all though - I'm in love with the roo, he's just stunning, and he has a nice, clean comb - that's a silly pet peeve of mine, I just can't stand looking at wonky combs.

I have an unrelated little Black Mottled cockerel growing out right now, so I'm hoping that, if he fills out nice and I manage to hatch a few Splash girls from this trio, I'll be able to set up a pen that will produce all Blue Mottled. That's all WAY in the future though - I don't think I'll be doing any more hatching this year.
