Isn't barring a sex-linked gene? Does that affect the quality of the barring on the females?

Yes, The only thing it is hard to tell with buff if you have a single barred gene male or double barred gene male with the color buff because of so many shades of buff...I am just telling from experience..the hens are not barring up like the roos.

I have bred(black) barred to black and the girls come out fine as far as barring goes from Barred X Black mating go. I don't think is as simple when dealing with buff, I don't know why.
