I've tried hatching eggs from Ebay, some luck but not much. I have blues and blacks and splash, what would I put together to produce lavender?
Your roo on your profile pic is beautiful, I fell in love with him at first sight!

You need to start with a Lavender bird and if the quality needs improving, breed to quality black cochins. The young will be black but when you breed them together they will produce some lavender(self blue). Then repeat the whole process until you get the quality you want.

Guess I need to be on the hunt for some quality lavenders! Thanks for your help and advice!

I have contacted a few breeders privately but am not having much luck in finding some really top notch Lemon Blues in the Standard Size.....So, I've decided to reach out fro some help here.....I know that Lemon Blue is not a recognized color, but I think it is just beautiful!
Can anyone help me out?
Also, I am outside of Nashville---can anyone recommend some shows this fall where there will be a nice sized Cochin entry within 500 miles of this area? I would really like to go and see some nice show birds to start to learn about type....

Thanks!

You might try Lynne at Wingshadows (wwmicasa1 here on BYC). She's been working on Standard Lemon Blues, and has some beautiful birds. She's in California, but she does ship.

If you go to page 4 of this forum, there is a picture of Lynne's Lemon Blue cockrel, he is absolutely gorgeous. I bought some birds from Lynne recently, she has good quality, healthy birds. Very pleasant to deal with. I know she sells the hatching eggs for the Lemon Blues.

It always helps if you can tell us when posting pics: 1) Bantam or LF (Large Fowl), 2) Age, and 3) Color Variety.

Sorry about that! Well, all are Bantam. The top I believe is a blue the other two are black. The blacks are under a year and the blue is age unknown. Thanks!

Thank you so much! I think they are beautiful too! However, my son and I got the showing bug after he entered his trio of Old English Game bantams at the county fair. The one hen really kicked some butt!

Buff mottled cochins---I'd love to see those!!! I had a wild hair to try it as I breed the mille fleur cochins. But I looked at the Chicken Calculator (neat tool that) and putting buff & mottled together then different breedings.....it about shut down the computer it was such huge calculations.....dun, khaki and other colors came into the mix. I think some of the the recommended chick #s were quite high on order to get a color combo.

Hello All

My friend raises Cochins - not show quality - but just for the eggs and so forth . Has a young Rooster that is growing up with an odd color that is unknown to either of us - almost looks like a Birchen -but hard telling. The hen is a blue - and rooster is a buff - his picture is attatched as well. Was hard getting picks of him as he was enjoying a nice bug lunch in the grasses - but hopefully someone can give me some insight?
Thanks so much!
