it would depend on the parents as to whether they're lavender or not. Ive had some splashes that looked lavender and quite a few babies that looked just like those that ended up splash. you'll just have to wait and see. chicks never stop surprising me

Thanks for replying. I did not see the roo, but the hens are Lavender. Time will definitely tell for sure, just was wondering if other colors got mixed in the batch.

Thanks again

I'm thinking about getting a pair of Bantam Barred Cochins . . . could someone working or familiar with them offer any advice? Is the Barred gene and pattern any easier or more difficult to work with than my Golden Laced? About all I know is that the Barred gene is sex-linked. Between my Golden Laced and Blue Laced Red project, I'm not really sure if I should tackle another variety at this time. The pair would be coming from the good stock of a reputable breeder, but I know there are never any guarantees past that. Are the Barred another variety that have to be breed in great quantities to get just one or two offspring with good patterns? Any advice would be appreciated.

Oooh, are you going for Blue Barred? I have blue large fowl and black barred large fowl. Have never gotten around to working on Blue Barred (large fowl). I did end up with one single bantam barred hen who is hatchery.....but have no blue or splash bantam roosters.....sigh.

No Blue, Lemon, Buff or Crele Barred - just plain old simple BEAUTIFUL BANTAM BLACK BARRED!! Still all just a thought that's up for consideration.

Personally, I like working with barred cochins - they're one of my favorites and I find them much easier than other patterned varieties because I think they're more predictable. And depending on the breeding (like say barred hen to black rooster), they're even sexable at hatch. But of course, someone else might feel differently than I do.

I have both black barred and blue barred bantam cochins, which I usually house together with my BBS group when they're in breeding. In this type of set up, its a gamble as to whether the offspring will be solid or barred, but all of them have really nice type, so thats ok with me because I like surprises.

I can always separate out specific pairs/trios depending on what I'm looking to produce. I'm also working on lavender barred separately with black barred and solid blacks.
