Now what to do with her. The first thing is to post her pic so we can all be envious!!!

Keep in mind that the Lavender (lav) gene is not the same as the Blue (Bl) gene. It breeds differently, and also has different diluting properties. Blue will only dilute black, but lavender will dilute not only black, but also red/gold. Lav x Lav = 100% Lav; Bl x Bl does not yield 100% Blue.

Here's a great thread specifically on Lavender Cochins (also referred to as "Self-Blue):

And yes, I think you should focus on finding a Lavendar roo for her.

I have a question about standard vs. bantam? Are they supposed to be similar in build? If so, which is more accurate? I've seen very few standard that look "round" and have no air between the legs. Is that okay or should they resemble the bantam build more? Also, the head size looks larger in relation to the body on the standard then than the bantam? Which is more desirable? Is the sop the same for both just in a different weight?

Should I even be comparing the two?

There are subtle changes in the SOP between the LF and Bantam. If you go to the CI link below, under "Breed Characteristics" you will find the SOP. It's probably easiest if you print them out, and then compare them side-by-side - I think you'll find the same description for some body parts, and significant differences for others.

I don't raise LF - only Bantams, so I really don't focus on the language of the SOP for LF. Just what I'm learning here. But the Bantams will always be described as having that typical volleyball shape - I never hear that with LF. The Bantams also carry themselves much lower. Generally, if someone posts a pic here and doesn't specify if it's LF or Bantam, you really should still be able to quickly identify which it is. IMO, they are visually very different.

I have found it extremely easy to tell the bantams from the standards with cochin. Except for a couple of pictures that Tom has. That's why I was wondering if the SOP was really that different. I've noticed with other breeds that I would actually have to ask if it were bantam or standard. Thanks for the link. I'll print it out at work tomorrow.

Because most lavenders are lacking in the type dept, I would say find the best possible black cock you can find to breed her to. The resulting offspring will all be black, but carry the lav gene. When these are bred back together, you should get 25% lavender with improved type. JMO.
