I tried getting advice on Cochins International, my first response was not the best. Why do I want to start a new color when there are so many colors that need improving? I felt a little put off but then recieved an email from someone else who gave me encouragement and good advice. It may take years but what have I got to lose? I think you are right about the red/ brown possibly with buff? It's so hard to find red/browns though!

That's not true!
fdnick just bought a herd of them and I will have some I am sure, as she and I are planning on working with the Lemon Blues...which is a mutation from the brown/red coloration, so much so that a lemon blue roo X a brown/red hen should have 50% each, and a lemon blue Splash X a brown/red hen will give you 100% lemon blue chicks.
Crazy huh ?
Yes we will have a few brown reds.

We also need to remember that the Aussies and Europeans quite often look upon their birds as 'ugly'...the Few Aussies I converse with on WAPoultry blog are so super envious of our marans here in the states, and although they love their Cochins (Pekins) they want what we have and we want what they have...human nature international !

I just don't think anyone should discourage anyone from trying something new! Look at the Mille Fleur Cochins and how popular they are! ( I have some of those too

). I was very appreciative of the email I recieved from another member giving me encouragement.
