I used to have some lemon blues and brown reds.

Now I have black, blue and splash in bantams and two LF partridge cochin chicks....

I've got one more empty pen.

Last time I produced bantam cochin lemon blues/brown reds, I do believe they came from an "accidental meeting" of my blue roo and my buff hens. I do want to try LB/BR again!

Anybody have some buff bantam hens they want to sell????

I have a birchen rooster and 3 chicks so I'm hoping for atleast one to be a pullet.

I'm looking for the Lemon Blues, Brown Reds, Buff Columbian, Columbian and Silver Penciled if someone has some or can point me in the correct direction.

I will have bantam lemon blue chicks and eggs in the spring!

Not to rain on your parade, but you can't make Lemon Blues from a Blue X Buff, or Buff X Blue matings. There is no pattern gene involved with that match up. You need to start with Brown Red and Splash, or Brown Red and Blue, and the Brown Red can't be from a Buff X Black cross either. Unless you are producing no kidding laced/edged feathers in the breast feathers of the males and females, and saddle feathers in the males that are laced with color you don't have the correct genetics.

Brown Red X Splash will produce Lemon Blue, but many will be undermarked, which may not be a bad thing since most Brown Reds are over marked. Breeding the f1's back together or a lighter Blue based f1 back to a Brown Red would be the route I'd go. Lemon Blue X Lemon Blue will produce the same results as breeding Blue X Blue (that is 25% Lemon Splash, 25% Brown Red, and 50% Lemon Blue).

I just added LF Cochins to my flock this month

so taking on a new variety for 2011 is not an option. I will however, help out in any other fashion. I have a Black Cochin boy from Tom presently residing with 3 ladies...a blue, a black, and a splash. And...two of them are on loan from another BYCer

A sucker for punishment I guess

Editted to add: all were properly quarantined prior to their present living conditions which just started 3 days ago. Everyone is on their best behavior.

IMHO, adding LF qualifies! Their numbers (all varieties) are far surpassed by their Bantam counterparts, so we need to bump their presence, also!

Good clarification. It seems like 99% of the lemon blue cochin eggs I see for sale are not true lemon blue as they are not based on brown red, and don't get me started in the splash birds that are being called lavender (self-blue).

Silly question.

Well, I guess I'll try to find a Brown Red Cockerel, since I have plenty of Splash and Blue hens.

Thanks for the info!
