Cochin Thread!!!

Hi everyone. I'm still new to cochins and chickens in general. I have a question. Today was rainy and the girls are going to bed with wet feathers on their feet. It's going to be cold tonight. The coop is dry. will they dry off fine? should I be concerned?

My mottled cochins always hatch out more roos than pullets, I've got a hen with 5 (she had 6 and lost 1). There are 3 cockerels and 2 pullets (I think) and the one she lost was another cockerel. I have another one in a 'big chick' brooder, another cockerel, then 3 in the house. Wouldn't surprise me much at all if they weren't all cockerels too!

Sounds like me too. I have this awesome customer in California. He bought a dozen Columbian cochin eggs from me, ended up with 8 cockerals and 2 pullets. So he ordered a dozen Mottled Cochin eggs from me, 7 cockerals, 3 pullets. Then 18 Columbian and Mottleds, 10 cockerals, 5 pullets. He's bought from me 7 times, he has so many cockerals from me. Now he just bought some Mille Fleurs. I'm waiting for him to get back to me on this latest hatch rate. Or maybe I don't want to know. LOL!!

I have just been given the oppertunity to aquire more bantam cochins. I started with chickens about a year and a half ago and boy do they grow on you! i have a bantam black cochin but i dont think she is laying anymore. I also have 3 bantam splash cochin chicks, pretty sure a pullet a roo and an iffy. The breeder that is offering me these chicks is selling right now blue, black, black frizzle, red frizzle/sizzle, partridge, black mottled, splash, and maybe one blue frizzle/sizzle roo. I dont want sepereate pens with different colors so witch color/s would be best with my splash cochins? and Male or Female? i also have a bantam black frizzle cochin hen.

I know my luck can't last - mottled eggs; 1 cockerel and 4 pullets!

Can you critique this 21wk cockerel? I've got him and a blue pullet from Little Ameraucana Mom, and I'm hoping he's going to be a good flock roo. He holds his tail higher outside where he's more comfortable, but I couldn't get him to hold still for a good picture out there.

Partridge Cochin Large Fowl pullet. Watch the middle toe feathering. It looks to be a bit sparse.

Thanks

I was wondering about that, she does have some more feathers coming in on her other toes.

I am stupid crazy in love with cochins. I saw LOTS of beautiful birds at the APA show Saturday and I was really interested in the Bantam Faverolles, but Cochins (bantam and LF) are absolutely, hands down, my favorites.
