Cochin Thread!!!

Hi Everyone!

Here in Maine it's cold and snowy.

But two of my bantam splash hens have started to lay again!

I've fired up an incubator in hopes that they keep laying for awhile

Seems this is the only way I'll increase my flock, so keep your fingers crossed for me!

And a Merry Christmas to you all.

We've never had cochins before but yesterday i bought two to go with my lone chick. Their extremely cute little chicks and i love their feathered legs and feet. I think they are just standard Cochins. They are a grey color with black beak. too cute. Nice to meet you all.

My friend and I rescued this poor little girl a few weeks ago. I'd say she was in with too many roos. She's about as sweet as they come though and even though it's winter and she's been picked on so much, she still lays me a little egg every day. I thought I would post a picture of her as she is now and hopefully, as she blossoms again, I can share her progress. I have her in my brooder, she seems to like being in with all the youngsters, heated and lots to eat, I see improvements already in her feathers.
Is it possible though, her little head is plucked so badly, that her feathers won't grow back? I've not seen much growth in the 3 weeks I've had her.

Trying also to think of a very special name for her~

I have one little Buff. She was a "rescue" too. She was thin and pale. Now she rules the roost and mothers and protects all the others in the pen with her. She is so sweet she became my husband's chicken. I am greatful to her because now he is getting to chickens too!

I think I might call her Grace, even though she looks so rough, she's come through her hardships with so much sweetness and grace~ I can't wait to post pictures of her when she's bloomed again. I can't say when she's beautiful again because she already is!

Awwww! She is darling! You should name her Honey. Her head feathers will come back after a molt and she will be as pretty as they come, I am sure.

Honey is a great name, I already have a wonderful little Honey though; she's my little Cocker Spaniel

She helps me with all the chickens, loves to see the baby chicks when they hatch. I have the incubator on a table beside the bed in the spare room, she has to get up on the bed so she can look into the incubator. I think she loves the chickens as much as I do!
