Cochin Thread!!!

Merry Christmas Everyone~ We are having a beautiful white Christmas, the snow began falling about 7pm this Christmas Eve, a soft, gentle snow. The birds are all nestled in their beds of straw, full bellys after enjoying warm cornbread.
What a wonderful night~

Merry Christmas, all you cochin folks!!!

Merry Christmas! The snow should start falling in the next few hours for a white Christmas here. Extremely unusual!

My bantam Cochin roos will start around 3 weeks old trying to dominate everyone and crow. They aren't being bullies, per say, just getting used to the equipment they were born with. I usually move the more aggressive ones to an older flock for a bit of discipline. It makes them more wily in their attempts but also teaches them that some hens and roos won't tolerate nonsense.

Merry Christmas and Peace on Earth,

Cochinman, Thank You for the Christmas present of the pics of beautiful birds!

Nadine, That is a good suggestion, a "Scared Straight" for chickens! We sometimes tell our cats that we will take them to visit the pound where other, less fortunate (SP) kitties live.

p.s. - How DO you spell that word?

Never thought about it being scared straight!

They usually look around sort of befuddled at first and then try to mate an older girl. It is funny to see a little boy hanging onto the neck of a girl 6 times his size. But another bird usually comes up and pecks him off. They sure use a lot of energy trying to do something that would have no effect!
