Jessica, that is EXACTLY what my beautiful GL cockerel Calypso looked like the 2nd night after I put him in the main coop. Not sure if it was the hens or roos. He hid in the corner for the next week or so - sometimes they just have to establish their own rank and file. It's been a couple of months now - his comb is all healed, the feathers are growing back in very nicely on the back of his head, and he is back to being the absolute sweetest and friendliest bird I have EVER raised - including all the girls. He holds his own in the coop - no longer shy, and gets along well with everyone.
I hope Louie fairs just as well.

Yes, but the only thing is that Louie was one of the first chickens I EVER had and so he is almost two years old and has been with all of the other chickens that are in the coop with him now for almost a year. It just seems odd.

I read the other posts and it seems you were given very good advice. You need to separate the roos. I had to take one out yesterday (not for the freezer either!) because the other roos finally decided they are sick of being together and sorely need to go to freezer camp so picked on him until he was wasting away and going down hill. I finally took the boys and put them all in little separate pens for fattening. No more fighting and next weekend freezer camp!
If you don't want your roos killing each other or your poor hen please separate them all. Louie looks like he will be fine as long as you get him away from the others.

I'm hoping for someone to call SOON about my roosters, but if they don't call before February 4th, I know a man that will come to my house and just pick them up and take them. He's always eager for more in his bachelors pen!

I finally got some pictures to share of some of my birds. Not my best Blacks but these would sort of pose.

Everyone who looked on the thread for my rooster probably saw that I have six roosters and one hen

and I may have said it here, but I just wanted to notify you that I just called a man who might come and pick up the roosters tonight and if that doesn't work out I know another man who would be willing to come and get them tomorrow after work! Either way, Tiny, my hen, will finally be freeeeeeee!

That is a very nice pen of Columbians and a beautiful black pair! Thank you for sharing.
I just got a pair of blacks to breed to my Lavernder/Self-blues and I am already falling for them. The cockerel has such a handsom face and red comb and wattle and the pullet is so sweet, always cooing.
I have 3 L/S-b pullets to breed to the Black cockerel and I have two cockerels to choose from for the Black pullet. It is going to be a long project. They hardly look like cochins. The pullets are from one breeder and the cockerels are frome two other breeders. All of them need yellow legs and more feathers on them. Plus L/S-bs tend to have poor feather quality. I have them in a pen with a very fluffy young pair of Buffs with really big cushions right now so maybe the contrast is making me too critical.
When I get a chance, I'll post some pics for advice. I know there is a L/S-b Cochin thread begun by Tom Robuck and his are the farthest along in type. He has amazing blacks.
Tonight we have been preparing for a predicted record cold and 10" of snow. That is alot for Oklahoma and I know Cochins are hardy but I put lamps in the coops and we hung tarps to block the wind. I still fuss over them.

I'm a new breeder from Wisconsin and was wondering if anyone had any Cochins currently for sale. I have decided to raise both standard and bantam Cochins. =] Let me know

Hey guys, I have a real dilemma. I have some really nice Columbian cochins. I've posted their pics before. I've been hatching eggs and selling eggs from these guys for not quite a year. I always get, and my customers always report getting Columbian chicks.

Well 2 weeks ago I hatched out some chicks that have me really concerned. My Columbians are in a coop and run where it is just this trio and there is no way, no how any other chickens got into their pen to get to them. And even if there was some way, I don't have any chickens that even resemble these.

I hatched out 5 chicks. I lost one and that one looked like the parents, a Columbian. The other 4 looked like Cochins...at first.

Three of the 5 are dark. One looks like a silver laced as it starts to feather out. One looks pure white. They definitely don't have cochin tails. I can see this at this early age. But that's not what concerned me at first. What concerned me at first was 3 of them have straight combs that then turn into something else. It almost looks like a Buttercup's comb. I don't have any of Buttercups and I never have.

Oh, on top of it, 3 of them also have these little crest like feathers that are starting to stand up. Its really hard to get pictures but this is so confusing.

I know that the Columbians I have are from good stock because the woman that I got them from got them from someone here on BYC whom I trust. I can't figure out what it is that is in their genetic makeup and why its coming out now. Can anyone help please?

Here you can see the points of the comb. There are 6 little points in a circle. Oh and you can see the little feathers standing up too.

Here you can see the body. Usually the tail stands straight up. Definitely not cochin like!

Mrs. Fluffy Puffy: itsiebitsiefarm were did you get your LF Cochins from? The Black one is gorgeous!

We got them from a breeder, in central Florida, who was getting out of the business.
The black pullet, in the pic....is from my BBS quad. She is going to be a big pretty girl!!

We are very happy with them, and hope to add more Cochins to Our flock soon.
