Cochin Thread!!!

Bantam chicks are definitely smaller than standard chicks. I've got a picture of mine somewhere next to a HotWheels car. They're not much bigger than it is. If yours are the same size as other standards you've purchased before, they're most likely standards. I'll see if I can dig up that picture.

Found the picture. It's two silkies and a black bantam cochin.

Thanks a lot. I love this forum. The LFS did say they were already sexed and they were pulleys. From what I have read was bantams, not sure if Cochin bantams are included, cannot be sexed. Yes, I see what you mean about the hotwheels car ratio. The chicks are larger than my one/two day old Standard EAster Eggers (chipmunks).

I would say that you have LF - or standard size cochins. Bantam chicks are tiny you would notice how small they are and be amazed by that and how cute that is. I think those of us who raise nothing but bantams forget just how tiny they actually are.

Bantam or LF? My 2 bantam GL roos will be otherwise occupied this year. I'm hoping to have some started stock available for sale late summer, but I really have no idea as to what quality I'll be hatching and will have available, as this is only my 2nd season with them. My goal this year is to improve the lacing on the females.

These are the 2 GL's I'll be using this year in 2 different breeding programs. I'm really pleased with their type, and I love the deep red mahagony in the hackles. My biggest concern is some white ticking on some feather tips, which I understand can be common, and difficult to breed out. And they have the best dispositions of all my birds put together - something I really want to keep in my lines.

This is my roo, Midas:

And this is his son, Calypso (pics taken this past fall at about 5 months):
