Cochin Thread!!!

I noticed today that one of my cochins, has a straight comb, but it has no bumps on it!

It came from a hatchery, so who knows what it might have been mixed from (Brahma maybe???)
She's dark red/brown, and I think partridge
Of course I can't get a good picture

She kept turning her head, and I can't get a clear close up, here's a pic from today
(head away of course)

Thanks everyone, I myself am pretty smitten with them.

I still want to get another pair or two, to have a subsantial breeding program for the Whites. I really miss showing and really have high hopes for what this pair will give me. Thought of entering them into a show here locally just for the heck of it. Its been years since I have even shown. I miss it and it would be nice to attend a show and have a bird(s) entered.

I thought I'd share some pics of my Cochins. These girls have stolen my heart. One is Red and one is Blue. Both are almost two weeks old. Though the Red one is extremely friendly as you can see her with my dog. My dog is a gentle giant.

bred the Black hen to a Black Mottled roo, have several eggs/ babies from them! she is now being bred to a barred male of equal type, barred babies will be given to feed store, black babies will be kept (breeding to barred will help genetically diversify, and improve leg and beak color to my black line) have a handfull of cochin breeders trying to genetically diversify my flock as much as i can in the short amount of time till fall

most important, keep your birds on a quality feed, i use Nutriblend, and this hen lays 5-6 days a week

I have sort of an odd question - recently aquireed some bantam barred rocks - two of the books i have state that barred rocks were the original result of breeding a dominique to a Java or a black clean legged Cochin. Did the Cochin originally start as clean leeged or were there two varieties?

sucker me, went to the feed store, came home with 4 babies, I believe they are splash cochins. However, lady at store said standard, I am thinking bantams, which I didn't want. How does one know for sure.??
