Cochin Thread!!!

I did and I noticed stance but I don't know enough about chicks to say much. The lighter one actually reminds me of my Silver Seabrights at that age....

I just hatched out some banty cochins for a friend with an overloaded incubator and ohmygoodness they are the cutest little things I have seen - with their big dark eyes and feathered booties, I can see now why so many people keep them. Can't wait for my own eggs to come this week!

I just purchased my first 3 chickens this past Saturday at a local chicken swap we had in the area...went for RIR pullets, and instead came home with 2 silkie/Polish crosses, and a Gold Lace Cochin (LF, not bantam)! The cochin has totally become my favorite...likes to be held, and lets me rub her face and neck...and she's quite the little "hunter" when I let her and her "sisters" out to free range...I'm thinking of calling her "Hunter"...is that a dumb name?! ...I believe she is around 4-ish weeks old...

I have been searching and searching with no luck and thought I would just ask in this thread. I am looking for some Red Cochin Bantams. Eggs or adults, and they can be frizzle or smooth. I kist want them to be decent birds, not expecting to find any amazing Red birds. I would like to find at least a trio or two pair if possible and if anyone could help me out please PM me. And if at all possible, can you have pics of the birds in question? Thanks everyone.

I think I saw eggs on ebay for red cochin bantams. I know nothing about the seller, but it's a start on your search.

I have a pair. Not full size yet. They both seem extremely tiny compared to my blacks. I was trying to get rid of him but wanted to keep her cause she is a sweetheart, but she doesn't fit my breeding program so I would let her go. I don't know how they are typewise. I am just getting started in this. I got a variety pack of cochin eggs off of pattynuth on ebay. The pullet is younger. The roo hatched on thanksgiving. She hatched on new years. You didn't mention if you wanted to ship. I haven't done it before but would consider it. I will try and get some pics tomorrow morning. If I can't it wouldn't be until wednesday afternoon as I work a 12-13 hr shift tomorrow afternoon. I also have a red sizzle chick that is about 10wks. I don't know if you are interested in them.

At what age can you tell bantam gold laced cochin pullets from roos? There are some forsale here that were born New Years but the lady isn't able to send me a pic of them and doesn't know if they are hens or roos. Shouldn't you be able to tell by that age? I am clueless as to what a bird that age even looks like...and it's a bit far for me to drive on a whim.

Anyone want to share their gold laced bantam photos? (age approx. 3 months?)

Thank you,

By three months, you should definitely be able to sex them. My males got their lacing later than the females, and males will have lacing primarily on the breast and a bit on wings. The lacing on the females appears a bit earlier, is evident on the breast, wings and back. Watch for the lacing on the back - those should be the females.
