Yeah, sorry but 8 week olds don't go broody. She isn't puffed up and broody, she is hunched up and sickly. Get some cocci treatment going to start, not to mention who knows what else. Definitely not broody though.
The flash made her skin pale but she's removed from the main pool because she isn't growing - I ran out of time to get here better before the chicks hatched so they are keeping her company- also a 10 year old dove who is blind...
((I need better sick pens))
I hope she gets better, she's sleeping a lot- poops are normal but she never fills her crop, a light eater if you will- she empties her crop every night... eyes are bright, she's alert - just tiny... the other two have grown in the last week, she hasn't...
Cocci even with normal poos (no worms, mites, lice either - checked - (did a slide for the worms).
Please separate her from your newly hatched chicks immediately... the point of a sick pen is to keep healthy birds safe from sick ones. Good Luck with her
Yeah, I had that talk with hubbie, (those birds are in QT, she's sick... not to be mixed with- awwww isn't that cute...) he also opened the incubator -during- hatching.
(he asked about putting the chicks with the healthy QT's and I said no, so w/o asking he put them with the -sick- one... then she called them and took them around and keeps them together and warm... so I thought maybe -I- had overreacted and she was just younger and stressed not sick and left them (till now).
Sounds like he needs a Chickens for dummies book...
So that is done, she is back in solitaire QT.
The chicks are still in the brooder and the dove (Betty) is well actually with her (Spree) slightly negating the 'solitary' part, she also has a rag toy to cuddle with and a mirror.
The other two (cochins) look fine (of the three purchased).
The chicks look fine... (so far, but they will be on medication/feed before noon).
I'll start her about the same time as I only have one full dose left.... no she gets that now...
