Cochin Thread!!!

Cochins lay cream colored eggs. I only have one adult cochin (bantam) at the moment, and she lays about 4 - 5 eggs a week.

some of my cochins lay a brownish pink colored egg and the rest go from that to shades of almost white

As far as "how many?" That depends on the bird, the time of year and her age, there are a lot of variables. Unfortunately, some of my best birds don't lay that often.........it's very frustrating.

) is, according to "What Breed Or Gender is This?" section, a Partridge Cochin. He's is 9 weeks old and I just adore him, he's my little fluff ball.

Moms Bantams lay almost every day. The 3 buff lay a cream colored egg. The little black one lays a lighter egg, but not as often as the others. If all my hens would lay on the same day, I would be OK. Trying to determine which of the 8 hens layed which of the 5 eggs is tuff.

Finally got around to taking some pics of some of my 6 week old large fowl cochins. They're all from a batch of lemon blue project chicks I ordered. Any input on them (quality, conformation, color, anything) is appreciated as this is my first time dealing with cochins outside of 1 bantam hen. Sorry some of their foot feathers look kind of funky; their pen was muddy from all the rain we had here last week. Sorry for so many images.

Cockerel #1 - Would he be considered a lemon blue splash? So far, he's my absolute favorite guy of the bunch for color.

Blue pullet again.

Cockerel #2 (otherwise known as Boss) - Lemon Blue? I love his dark blue color, but he's is bossy: likes to bite the fingers if you mess with him or other chicks sometimes.

A black pullet: I have 2 of them. One has some deformed toes on both feet, but I can't even tell now because she has absolutely GIANT foot fluff, the fluffiest feet of all of them, and she doesn't seem impaired in any way by her toes! I love the amount of feathering she has on her feet, but are curled/webbed toes genetic, or are they caused by other factors?

Cockerels #3 and #4 - Lemon blue on the right and another splash(?) on the left. He looks buff in the pick, but he has blue in some of his tail feathers. The splash(?) is my 2nd favorite cockerel because he's the one that always wants to fly up on my hands/arms/knees and make himself at home...he did this to my hand while I was trying to take pictures, which made things a bit more complicated at times.

The one on the right is Boss' 2nd in command; he likes to bite when you mess with him or the others, too.

Pullet - Would she be considered brown-red? I got her good side; she's actually blind in her other eye (was that way when I received her). She's the most gentle girl of the bunch.

Then there's this pullet/cockerel. - While the other cockerels sprouted combs and wattles starting at 2 weeks, this one didn't sprout any until this past week, so late blooming cockerel or early blooming pullet? If she's actually a he, then all of my actual lemon blue and splash colored birds are officially cockerels.

Oh well, I'll still have 4 pullets (2 blacks, 1 brown-red, and 1 blue).

I love that I ended up with so many different colors! However, now I'm not sure how to go about breeding for lemon blue, though. lol!
