co has little effect on Birchen, I believe is is a Columbian mix but not to Er

OK, I'm new to cochins. Can you explain "Er"

Er is the Birchen allele of the "e" series of alleles, "E" (Extended Black) being the most dominant, followed by Er(Birchen), Dominant Wheaten(eWh), Wild Type(e+) Brown(eb)..

Homozygous Extended Black birds are what its called Self Black birds, example Black Jersey Giants

Homozygous Birchen Males look wildtype but with black wing triangle, example Birchen Cochins

Homozygous wildtype males are black breasted red, example Black Breasted Red OEG

Just wanted to let everyone on this thread know who tried to help with my Birchen roo that despite every effort I could possibly come up with that I lost him Sunday afternoon. I really thought that he was going to make a full recovery. On Saturday he was eating and moving around in his cage, his eyes looked brighter and he was looking so much better. I continued with antibiotics but Sunday morning found him on the bottom of his cage. I sat in the sunshine with him wrapped in a towel, he looked up at me and then closed his eyes and was gone. I am absolutely heartbroken. Sometimes I think I should never have any "favorites".
To everyone who gave me advice and helped out any way they could, I just wanted to say thank you~

i'm sorry for your loss
it's not that it's our favorites that die, it's the fact that we dont get rid of them so they stay with us long enough to die, or at least that's what i tell myself

No, he was a favorite~ He was just over a year old. He was one of those ones that looked you in the eye, got excited when it was breakfast time, talked to you.... he was very special to me and died way to early.
On the only good note; I have one little chick that hatched 2 weeks ago out of him, I hope with all my heart that it's a roo
