Sackman, Those Mottles sure are nice - such cute, fluffy butts in the last pic!

The Cochin threads sure have been quiet the last few days. Everyone must be out enjoying the Fall weather.
Finally Oklahoma has some decent, cooler temps and a bit of rain. Still behind in rainfall amounts by about 12" though. My young birds are eating ALOT now that the weather has gotten more reasonable.

Very nice Sackman

Took some pics of a few of my Cochin bantams today and thought I would share.

He was not happy about having his picture taken. All he would do is hunker down in the grass and glare at me...lol

I went to the coop this morning and my best hen went into serious molt. Her cage looks like someone started plucking her last night. I have her entered to show next week in Colorado. Oh well she may look good for the Cochin International western national show at Iowa City Thanksgiving weekend.

Anybody looking for some cochin cockerels? I have extras from my LF order: "lemon blue" project birds...so I don't think they'll actually meet the criteria for lemon blue, but they're very pretty colors. I'll get some pics later and post them in the auction page as well. They're 8 weeks old tomorrow.

I also want to know this! I'm in Vic but we still get 35 degree celcius summers. I know my faverolle looks a bit too hot sometimes and cochins look like they have even more feathers than her!

I don't know your humidity levels there but I lost several one day this summer. It was 98 degrees Fahrenheit with high humidity which raised the heat index to well over 110. Other Cochin breeders also lost birds in the heat this summer. More large fowl losses than bantams if my recollections are accurate.

I am in San Antonio, TX and this summer the temps got to 107-110 consistently on a daily basis. None of my cochins died, but a barred rock did. Around noon I would go out and wet a section in their coop everyday, so they would have damp mud, and lightly sprayed the birds. I dont know if I was lucky, or it helped or if they would have been fine reguardless!!
