Awesome. I love that first one with the rich red and white. I have a very handsome roo that would look great with more white on him like that. He needs to go in the freezer but he is so pretty I haven't been able to do it. He lives in the Muscovy pen and does fine so I have hung on to him.
This is a most interesting project you have going. I am going to love seeing all your kids grow up from this!

I don't know your humidity levels there but I lost several one day this summer. It was 98 degrees Fahrenheit with high humidity which raised the heat index to well over 110. Other Cochin breeders also lost birds in the heat this summer. More large fowl losses than bantams if my recollections are accurate.

I am in San Antonio, TX and this summer the temps got to 107-110 consistently on a daily basis. None of my cochins died, but a barred rock did. Around noon I would go out and wet a section in their coop everyday, so they would have damp mud, and lightly sprayed the birds. I dont know if I was lucky, or it helped or if they would have been fine reguardless!!

I lost 9 birds due to the heat this summer.

I misted down the shade clothes every day. A couple of hens died while they were on the nest laying. It still haunts me. Last summer I put out gallon jugs of frozen water and the birds would often sit by them. That wasn't an option this year. My neighbor's clean legged birds often stood in their water pans but I never saw my Cochins do that. This was a record summer of heat in Oklahoma 63 days over 100*. Hope it isn't a trend.

I love the patterning. One question: where did that rose comb come from? lol!

I only sell eggs when my incubators are full or I am not incubating (late Fall/Winter).
