Cochin Thread!!!

Brad Legg from Kansas City had the Apricots in the sale area. I actually have a couple of hens in my setting pen. I just never thought of giving them a name. I just liked their color.

I think Richard Andree of Minnesota was the exhibitor of the butterscotch cochins.

There were some in the sale area also.

I agree with fattie. Tom's birds are the best. Unfortunately he does not sell any. He is not done from a breeding standpoint to let any out into the public yet. I did see some nice f2 or f3 self blues at the show. Two men from Georgia had some that are starting to look OK. The best I have seen for sale so far. One of them is named Danny.

yes that is where I think people will need to get their starts. He did have some decent self blues that would make a nice start for someone. also one in particular that caught my eye was a self blue barred cockerel, could be interesting to see what you get with him, not correct but would be pretty yard candy

Last year I got some Self-blue eggs by mail - from Maryland, New York and Georgia. Fro the MD and NY eggs I got 1 roo ea.. From the GA eggs I got 3 pullets. The GA birds were quite a bit closer to a Cochin type so I am using them with a SQ Black rooster. I am far behind Tom's flock. He posted 2 pics on the Self-blue Cochin site - really ALOT of progress - very exciting!

The Self Blues I have are a couple of generation behind Tom but he definately has the best and has come a long way. The birds I had at crossroads were the last generation. I have some a lot better here at home.

Just got home from Indy today....stayed for the ARBA show and couldn't pull the rabbits til this morning.

Anyways,I got a new blue mottled pair while I was there. They are both young.....and funny enough, I liked the hen up there and just bought the roo to go with her. But now that they are home, the hen is not terribly impressive and I love the roo! He is young and still needs to fill out but has a nice start.
