Cochin Thread!!!

I like the way they're looking also rosey. As far as your males are concerned, my experience has been that the breeding that produces the nicest pullets, doesn't produce very nice cockerels or at least not as nice as the pullets. I know that some folks say they can breed good males and females from the same roos and hens, but I haven't done it so far. I wonder if you don't have to breed A LOT of chicks so that they can be picked through. I think the double breeding is really the easiest way to go. I'll let know this fall when I get offspring from my two different type roos and their hens.

I wanted to share a couple of pictures of my 8 wk old partridge bantams. I am really excited about how they are looking so far, they are already as fluffy as the momma was at about four months. I can't wait to see how they will mature. They are already developing cute little cushions.

This group is so sweet to, they are under my feet or in my lap constantly. The boys are not shaping up nearly as quickly as the girls, they don't look as fluffy yet. Do boys fluff up more slowly? The feather color pattern is also very messy looking on the boys, they are in that so ugly they are cute stage.

I would love to see the photo documentation of that journey!! It would be so educational for some one like me who is just starting out. I always thought that comment about two lines of partridge had to do with getting good penciling on the pullets and the right markings on the roos. Do the roos take longer to get round and fluffy? I am sure the color wont look right for a few more months, they have a long way to go before they resemble an adult partridge. Thanks for the kind words about my baby girls.

Rosey, don't forget I'm a beginner also. I've just been able to see that the roos are not as good as the pullets that I get from my original roo. I've obtained some more roos that I can sort through and found one that I think will work for producing pullet color and one that I hope will give me more roundness in my roos. I believe my first birds were probably too closely inbred and I was having trouble with hardiness and feather pattern. I won't know until this fall how my new match ups are working.

No as a matter of fact I haven't. I was thinking of emailing him about a pullet I have, but I've been kind of preoccupied with getting my mom into rehab. I wonder if he just hasn't been getting notices of the posts? That happens to me sometimes, I think folks just aren't on the threads but then I find out that I haven't been getting notices and when I finally get back on I'm behind two or three pages.
