Cochin Thread!!!

I did not do very well in the 1st show at Sedalia. I took 5 varieties to the show Buff Columbian, Columbian, Partridge, Black and Birchen. My Buff Columbians did not have any others to compete with for variety. I did have a good Partridge that won Best of Variety in both shows that I sent home with Annamay. Lilcrow and Annamay had the best birchens in the first show. My Blacks really got beat by a several good birds in the first show. There were 3 exhibitors of Columbians . Mine did well. Sent the 2nd place Columbian in the 2nd show home with Annamy also. She sent me home with a pair of Silver Penciled.

For the 2nd show the judges liked my birds better. I had 5 Best of Variety and 4 Reserve of Variety. I ended up with Best of Breed and Best Featherleg with a Black bird I bought from Tom.

Only 1 more show for me this spring at Peoria. Only taking Blacks and Columbians to that show.

I will have them loaded on CI as soon as I hear from Linda. Depending on the quality of her pics, I may need to ask to use some of yours.

I didn't take pics for the 2nd show because they did the CI meet ribbons for the 1st. I did see Linda taking pics so I think they'll upload them on the CI site soon

What color is her comb...red or pink? When she sits, does she puff up and growl at you when you approach her? Has she gathered anything under her...like rocks, pebbles. Those would be signs of broodiness.
If she is the only hen in the coop with the roo, she may be sitting still to avoid his attentions.

I have a question too. I have 2 bantam Cochins that I purchased at the same time, about 1.5 months ago. The white one seems large, but smaller than a full-size chick) and I think a roo. I have a mottled that is about 1/2 the size of the white. I'm wondering if this chick so much smaller because it's a pullet or if it an unthrifty chick that I need to pull out of that pen and bring in to see if I can get it to add size/weight. For reference, this chick is not much larger than my Silver Sebright hen, but is larger. The chick also seems dysmature compared to the others. It still has fuzz on it's head where the other chicks the same age are basically fully feathered.
