Cochin Thread!!!

Anybody know what the cross of a golden laced hen over a mottled roo would look like when it matures. I got one cross of this in my last hatch about a week ago. His feathers are coming in black.

my understanding is that both color patterns require 2 copies of the gene to show up, so you'll likely get a solid black i think.

Not so great photos, but their mom was really not happy and I didn't want her to upset all the chicks.

This is the one I'm calling a female for now. She of smallness and lack of feather compared to brother..lol.

Brother for comparison. ( Not completely sure on sex)

As you can see, the difference is pretty obvious and they are the same age.

i don't see anything i'd worry about. she's just feathering in slower than he is... just like people, some grow faster than others. i've got the same variation in size/feathering in every variety i hatch... EE, cochin, dorking, etc. some are more noticable than others. it's going to vary.

YAY! *doing happy egg dance*

my cochin eggs are here! time to start crossing fingers and toes (and eyes, or whatever else can be crossed?) 24+ potential mille/self blue/bbs babies.
