i don't think it's a color thing, maybe different lines etc. my mottleds are usually feathered out at 6 weeks old

Mottleds are also known to have a slow feathering gene, from what I read. It took my 2 mottled boys nearly 3 months to fully feather.

O.K So I have a Giant white cochin hen who I bred to my EE Roo. Here is the chick i kept out of the 2 that hatched.

I am stumped at how i got a barred chick out of this cross! The only other feather footed chicken i have in the flock is a Salmon faverolle and her chicks are not black they hatch out yellow with chipmunk stripes.
Just for reference he is the little black sex link chick i hatched from the same Roo and a Barred rock hen


The rest of the babies look nothing like these they all have chipmunk stripes and eyeliner and are shades of brown and silvery white and yellow so obviously its not dad passing down the black or barring. 'All the chicks have same dad over 8 hens who all lay distinct color eggs and size.

I am trying to understand her genetics, I am going to post this in the genetics section to but just wondering?
