Cochin Thread!!!

Here either! I was pretty sure I was dying today at 106, almost got sick when I attempted to go out. We're setting records all over the place.

Drought, water conservation and all. Not normal at all for where I live!
What State do you live in? Sounds miserable!

Good ole Indiana, state of the Hoosiers. We've been giving the chickens ice chips since we can't change water as often as we like due to water conservation. It seems to help. We also have fans roped up to the run blowing in. It is supposed to cool off to the 80's for 3-4 days before it shoots back up. I know they will appreciate it as much as I will!

Oh, I have never been to Indiana. A couple of years ago our son moved to Florida so we go visit him there. Some day I would like to do a road trip and visit as many states as possible

I didn't realize you guys were having a drought. When we have had droughts here in California it is NO fun at all!! Glad to hear your going to get a little break from the heat!

No, "Calico" is not a recognized variety in any breed. Calico is the name that has been given to Cochins out of the Mille Fleur breeding projects.
You can go to the Cochins International website for the list and pictures of recognized Cochin varieties (link below)

K guys n gals, I have 5 SQ cochins and am new to the breed. Is there a recognized color jnda like calico?

not in the US... i did find this yesterday, and it's great to look thru to see the cochins over in europe (germany i think?)

it appears that there are more varieties accepted over there, and they seem to be close to perfecting the mille fleur.
