in europe they call it lavender, in the US it's self blue (and IMO too confusing with the OTHER blue for some). and yes i'd say it's a pullet. my 2 5 week old self blues are both cockerels and the comb is VERY distinct.Hi, congrats about her first egg![]()
just wondering at what age I can sex my little pekin chick (Pekins are pretty much the same as bantam cochins)
He / She has just turned 5 weeks old so I should be able to tell but I only hatched one pekin in this hatch so have no comparison,
I think it could be a girl---
Also, I'm selling one of this chicks older brothers, Should I be calling them Blue Pekins or Lavender Pekins?
A buff laced single combed Brahma to my Doerr GLCs. All the birds pictured are heterozygous for dominant white. I am not aiming for white laced red.wow Love Love Love the color of these chickens what are they a cross between how do you get chickens like these

well, for one you can put blue black and splash together, and get more blue black and splash, you could put the mottled in there too, but unless the roo also carries mottled, you'd just get the bbs first generation.I have been building my bantam cochin flock since spring. I have ended up with 6 columbians I am keeping, I have several buff to keep, 1 buff columbian hen is a keeper, 2 possible roos to keep that are splash and 4 hens that I will keep, I have a red hen, 3 silver laced, 2 blue, 3 black, I have a 1 year old mottled hen that I am keeping she has great type and foot feathering but she has too much white in her, I also have a young pullet that looks to be mottled but is getting some red chevrons.
My question is for all the Gentics gurus out there. I plan on breeding columbians, buff columbians and splash. What other colors can I put together and what will I come up with.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
These are young birds and several are showing good type some better than others so there may be more I will not keep. I dont breed to show but I do want the best quality birds I can find.
Please any suggestions are welcome and appreciated!
