Cochin Thread!!!

I've got this barred cochin rooster that I find rather interesting. He's still young but what do y'all make of his color? I know it's not correct but I think he's just too pretty to get rid of. He's supposedly out of a pen of just straight barred cochins so what do you think would make his neck be white?

Not sure but he sure is handsome!

I just wanted to thank everyone for their kind words on my blues. I am very excited about them. As I said I have several nice babies in the grow out pen and hoping to continue working on them. I just love blue chickens, especially my fluffy butted cochins

wen you are ready to sell cicks let me know

Question...I hatchesd out some bbs LG cochins from 4-h show quality but they all have dark shanks. Do I need to sell these and get yellow shank birds. I'm wanting to eventually show them.

chicken fever I think you can show them but not sure how satisfied you would be with the results. Do they have yellow feet? Maybe I should have waited for the eggspurts but they will come along shortly

I have a question also: How old do the bantam cochins have to be for me to judge for cushion width? wing carriage? aand overall body shape? I have a bunch of two month old blacks and am trying to thin them out. A lot of them have not grown the tail feathers yet so I am having a most difficult time figuring this out. Is there a way to feel the bone structure?

is there a way to tell early on if a cochin bantam is going to be show quality or pet quality?

PQ often yes, SQ often no. At about 3-4 months they start to get type like they will have as a mature bird. PQ shows up earlier in leg foot color, eye color, shafting, type. On mottleds it takes a long time to know.
