I have made a few EE x Cochins. Tell you what- the broody factor about doubles! Even so, they are one of my favorite crosses.

Boy or girl? At least 12-16 weeks old. I'm losing track of ages. There is a sea of baby fuzzy butts all over my layer coop, and my Cochin pen and my silkie pen and everywhere else and in the layer coop I can't even tell who belongs to who since they all play share the babies. What's scary is I get more eggs from my Cochins and silkies than I do my layer pen.
Anyway I kept this one and his/her twin cause they reddened up early and I thought they were boys and I was trying for a split to self blue boy but now I think I might have 2 girls. S/he is the reddest.
Mine have different sized combs. This hen is about a year old.LOL! I'm thinking the brown egg may have been from my turken pullet. I was out there earlier when I was feeding them looking at all the combs and trying to get hands on them to see if they squatted. The cochins have redder combs but they haven't gotten much bigger really. Not like my turken pullet who pretty much doubled the size of her comb and sounds much more hen like now. Guess time will tell. I'm figuring all the young pullets should be laying my mid month likely. ETA: How big does a cochin pullets comb get anyway? Combs on my 3 are getting redder but not much bigger really. Anyone have pictures that I could compare mine to?
Thank youfor that example. She is a pretty hen. Yep my pullets don't have combs that large yet. I figure I have a few more weeks for them.
This is Liz Lacey, our beloved buff Cochin in Brooklyn. We have her as well as two ameraucanas, Irma and Gretchen. Gretchen is a little shy and flighty but has calmed down a lot, and Irma is wily and pushy and at times not the nicest chicken. Liz Lacey is sweet, comical, good natured, charming, and everyone's favorite. Plus she is a great layer. We hope she'll be with us for many years to come, even after her laying days are over. Here is a link to a short video of her running...

Ummmmmmmm.............bummer............
Have you separated the feathers at the joint to see if there is an unfeathered gap right at the bend of the wing? If there is, then it will never be correct, but if you can see a feather trying to come in at that location she could well be OK.
