Cochin Thread!!!

They should. I have noticed that my birds stay pretty wild, until about 5 weeks. They have the instinct of fight or flight, and they are scared of you right now, so they try and run away. They will learn quickly you mean no harm, just try and handle them as much as possible to help.

i notice most of mine are spazzes until they get to free range. then all of a sudden, i become their best friend because i bring the food out.

That's good to hear. I thought I was doomed to forever brood my chicks in the house. Our first five were inside till 5 weeks, and got used to us always being around, and now in the run I just yell "chick chick chick" and they all come running. I disliked having them inside so much that these new babies are all the way out in the garage. Even the little Silkie babies are a little nuts, and I thought the Wyandottes were bad.

i'm curious, with the weather so warm, why are they still inside? mine are going out (with heat bulb over nights) at about 3 weeks.

We are starting all over with chickens and would really like to find some good quality cohins,mainly bantam but maybe standards also.We want mainly solid colors but would consider others.We would need them shipped unless close to us here in Iowa. Thanks! Mike

And moving birds outside...? You keep chicks in your house?

I have already talked to Craig,he doesn't have any right now.I keep the chicks in my {Heated-AC} garage till they get older then put them in the coops outside of the garage. Mike
