Cochin Thread!!!

I was wondering how many of you may/will be going to the Maryland Poultry Fanciers show November 3-4th. Things may have turned around and I may be able to go. If I can, I will be after 2-4 black or black mottled bantam Cochin pullets/hens. I would love to pre-buy if anyone is going and selling! Thanks!

thanks, yes i saw that the hall opened at 6:30, cooping until 9, judging begins at 9:30. i also see where sale coops will be available for $2 per hole. but what i don't see, is what time the swap portion is open to the public. i'm not exhibiting, i'm shopping. so does it open at 6:30 when the hall opens? or at 9 or 9:30? the last poultry show i went to was close to 20 years ago, and it was a state fair.

most of the large events i've been to in years past, they open early for vendors/exhibitors, and to the public at a later time. so i have no clue how THIS show works...

I suggest that since the hall will be opened you can be looking at the area when you want. 7 or later. Have a phone with you because many times the seller puts a cell # on the sale cage and comes to the area when someone is interested enough to call. Bring cash. HAVE FUN!!!!

Prepare to quarantine new purchases at home.

Oh, and a little update on the chocolate project... the trio is together finally (choc Orp and two black Cochin girls). I got an egg the same day I put them together but not since. Once they start laying again, I will set them and see what I get. I did not trim fannies hoping I wouldn't need to. We shall see! The cockerel is about 2x the size of the girls. Getting them down to size may take some time - along with getting the type back.

I enlarged the image a bit for everyone to see her better. The closest Variety I can think of is maybe a Birchen x Columbian cross??

I think she is a cross out of a Mille project pen. My thought is columbian and partridge in her background. Definitely a mix.
