Last year I purchased some chicks labeled Giant Cochins from my local feed store. Which I figured were just your standard sized chicken. I have 3 hens that are amazing. Love them all so much. But 1 sometimes I think is a Brahma. Though I have a Brahma and their combs are very different. As she is so much larger than the 2 cochins which I am wondering if the other 2 are a bantam.

1st picture is Laura my dark brahma
2nd picture is Helga my cochin
3rd pic is of the girls tail feathers
4th & 5th is Helga with my black cochin Happy

Giant Cochin are bred more for exhibition and are heavier/looser feathered than standards. They should also weigh a bit more.

It's possible your others are bantam.. maybe weigh them, what size eggs do they lay?

The straight combs are Cochin. Size variations can happen in hatchery birds especially. They do not always conform exactly to the SOP.

I have a few smaller brown eggs in the coop. But i also has 3 smaller sized RIR's that are also 1 year old.

RIR lay huge eggs comparatively to their body size (usually) is why they are considered a high production breed. Cochin lay smaller eggs than them even when both are large fowl, in my experience. I would describe Cochin eggs as medium size. My bantam eggs... might get medium size when full grown... but usually start around 25 grams verse LF birds often start around 45 grams.

If you wish to know who lays which egg.. I have heard of folks putting food coloring (or lipstick) on the vent in the evening, using a different color for each bird and the egg gets smeared with that color when laid. :)

Wow that's interesting. My 2 silkie mixes lay small eggs. I get some medium and some large.

I have that are laying hens
2 Brahmas
2 wyondottes
5 easter eggers
5 orpingtons
2 silkie mixes
1 australorp
1 barred rock
1 unknow breed (white)
3 cochins
3 rhode island reds

Then babies
3 cochins
3 Blue Jersey Giants

Rooster
1 bantam cochin.

I started out with 2 hens. Then I was giving 6. Then given 3. Then I have gotten babies the last 3 seasons. I never knew I would get addicted to chickens. Haha but I love all my girls. I feel like I need to play a flute as I walk the property because they follow me everywhere. Of coarse they are just wanting treats. Haha
