Cockerel hit by car

That is wonderful news. I am happy for you! Eating is a great sign, and glad that he is using his legs.
He can have a low dose 81 mg aspirin twice a day for pain. Give it orally or try hiding in food.
It’s definitely an eyesight thing. I had moved the feed to the stationed container and showed him but he struggled a lot more to eat from that one vs the little one I had been using. I had been shaking the small one so maybe it was the sound that made him quick to start eating..

Would you recommend the aspirin for pain anyways? He’s a lot more mobile today than he has been. He using the leg to get around and it seemed easier today for him when turning around.

I just came back to check on your cockerel and I'm happy things turned around! Keep up the good work!
Thank you!! I’m glad he’s come around from this, I’ve seen what getting hit by a car can do to animals so I’m very thankful he got lucky

Mr Rooster might like some scrambled egg.
He didn’t even try the scrambled eggs the first time but I’m sure if they were smaller chunks like pellet sized he could probably eat some. He’s eating strangely so I’m unsure how well he’d be able to get the scrambled eggs right now unfortunately

Use the aspirin if he needs it for pain. Otherwise, see how he does.
Will do!! He seems pretty content hanging out in his crate for now. He doesn’t move around too much just a few circlesbhere and there but only ever the one way so I think his right eye is a little messed up.. the lid had some scrape marks too and that’s the side with the road rash

:weeI'm so glad he's doing better! Even with sight problems they can learn to adapt,He might not do things the same way other chickens do but he'll find a way that works for him.
Me too!! I’m sure it’ll knock him down a peg or two. He better appreciate me for all this love and care I’m giving him

If you haven't already done so, perhaps using some vet opthalmic ointment in his right eye would help? It might help to keep the eye, lid and tissues moisturized. I don't think it's going to help his sight per se, as I think the issue could be one of swelling from the accident. Think of a boxer...same deal. He may have some issues with depth perception, as well as vision. Hopefully those will clear up & he'll be good to go. The brain is a delicate and remarkable organ. If he doesn't regain sight like he had, his little body will compensate. If you can give him some Pedialyte for the electrolytes, that will probably help him.

This is going to sound crazy but I'm going to say it anyway. Maybe get some B-50 or B-100 vitamins & give him some of them. Not just a standard B-Complex. Reason being, nerve cells thrive on the B's. If there's damage, and given the optical issues he's experiencing there may be, that could really help him. The nerves we'll find new pathways & attempt to grow & regenerate themselves again. I would crush a tablet and sprinkle half in whatever he's eating and or drinking.

And good job taking such great care of him. He knows how much you love him & he does appreciate the extra effort, attention & TLC!

Thank you!! He’s been living inside since the accident. The first night he spent it next to my bed in a laundry basket, he’s since moved up in the world and upgraded to the dog crate :lau

Aww, so sweet! So glad he seems to be recovering!

Just checked in to see if there was any news. I'm taking a 'no news is good news' approach!
It’s mainly been good news since the accident thankfully!!

Artie had been eating crumble and drinking on his own. I’ve worked this past week so I haven’t had much day time to be with him but with it being my weekend now I can put some time into his care.

I typed that out earlier today. Tonight I found some lice on him on a hidden road rash I hadn’t previously found. There’s a good sized scab on the side of his tail, half of his actual tail feathers are missing (not the sickle feathers). I’m going into town tomorrow to get some permethrin dust and I’m going to look over all the other birds just to be sure they are clear as I haven’t been doing a clothes swap or anything when going between the four locations and I’m paranoid about bugs on my animals. They might have shown up since he’s been unable to dust bath this whole time..

I was also freaked out the other day when I saw green skin on his leg above the wound.. It’s since turned more of a yellow hue so I’m thinking I caught a bruise at the worst possible time. I did have the thought it was a bruise turning yellow when I first saw it but it was after my mini freak out

But other than that he’s doing alright! Still eating and drinking with vigour, pooping normally with good colours and cecalls. He has a bad limp still on that right leg but I imagine something is messed up in that joint or it’s just really sore from the deep wound..
