cockerel or pullet? how to tell

I looked through your threads and you can def tell the difference between the feathering of the roos and pullets. I really need to get some leg bands or put some food coloring on my chicks so I can tell them apart. What did Babs turn out to be? There are def some of mine that are feathering faster than others. I posted some pics of some of mine whose combs are a little bigger than the others and one of my brahamas has hardly no tail feathers compared. Your welcome to check mine out and see whatcha think.

They're still growing, Babs and Betty will be butchered once they're big enough, and the bantam cockerel(s) will be looking for somewhere else to reside as we can't have roosters. If Sleepy turns out to be a cockerel I'll probly end up rehoming him/her as well. S/he's turned into more of a pet and is too friendly to eat. They just turned 5 weeks old on Wednesday and Thursday. I'll keep posting pics until they're processed or rehomed.
I also have some brahmas, a rir and a black jersey giant I'll be posting pics of, they're only 1 week old now and hardly have any feathers.

Hi, Gritsar, and other "feathered friends". ;) Was hoping for some of your expertise on determining the sex of my 4-week-old chicks. Got a Straight-run of Australorps, and Buff Orpington Pullets. Two of the Aussies I'm quite sure are cockerels, but I was wondering if you, and anyone else would help me discern the rest? Thanks, much!
Here are the pics (I hope the composition/quality is workable):

The top pic is of "Dot"; "Splash" is the Aussie in the middle of the second photo; and the 3rd pic is of 3 of our 4 BO Pullets. What's the verdict?

Hi. Sorry to bother you. A while ago you posted a picture of your 2 Marans. One looked like a cockerel although they're both meant to be pullets.

I have the same problem: I don't know if it's a pullet or not and it looks a lot like your chicken. Mine are 14 weeks. So how did it pan out???

Regards
Christina

'Fast feathering' only counts if the parents are bred to display that train in their offspring; otherwise it's random. Comb size and color, attitude (sometimes), and hackle and saddle feathers are keys. Mary
