I do the same @Grammy60, with my last one lost 4 months ago.
Good Night Rascal, such my good boy.
Sorry to read about you losing Rascal. You lost him shortly before I lost Ben.
However, I'll always have a dog. I adopted Bella 6 weeks ago. She became instantly enamored of my 17.5 year old 6.5 pound cat. The cat doesn't share her feelings.

What a great picture.

I used to say that too....
....but financial and physical limitations have curbed that plan,
not fair to keep a dog if I can't give it what it needs.
I totally agree.
I'm still in pretty good health and down sized my life so I can easily afford it. But when I lose Mogwai and Fuji (my min pin) it'll just be one Doberman and the chickens.

Oh

Oh my. I love dobies. I had 2, Tori who was a black and fawn like your Bella and Aramis aka: Ari who was a big blue Dobe. Both were pussy cats, not a mean bone in their bodies and loved my little half maltese half Llaso Apso, Shadoe....all 17 pounds of him.

Tori died of heart failure at 10 and Ari died of a brain stem stroke at 11. The vet told me their long lives were evidence of the good care they got. They were loved. I vowed I'd not get another Doberman. I can't take loosing another dog with a life expectancy of only 7-9 years. It's hard enough loosing them at 13-14 years.

There are no guarantees of longevity. Dobermans pack a hell of a lot of living in their years. Bella is number 6. I've had all 4 colors. All of them rescues.
DCM kills 40% of Dobermans and half of those will have sudden death.
My personal experience have slightly worse stats. I've lost three to DCM, 2 had sudden death. I lost one to hepatitis and the last one to degenerative disc disease. Yet I still seek them out to adopt. They are incredible dogs.

I would not have given up my Belgians if given the Choice back then not certain
I would have placed on with me now not as I am not sure ... I was thinking of a toy dog
like them with hair had the papillion as a child handled a ton anyway was thinking smaller now
not breed the snow

I always found it sad that such a great dog was given such a short time on this earth.

Not long after loosing Tori I encountered a lady about my age walking her doberman. I greeted her and said in my best non threatening tone, 'and what a sweetheart you are!' to the dobe and offered her my hand to sniff. Within a few minutes, the dog and I were friends and I was happily thumping her ribs and scratching behind her ears. Her owner was amazed and told me that people usually crossed the street when she walked her dog, never realizing what gentle animals they are.

We got our new on demand water heater today. DH got the old one torn out and the new one mounted. They are so easy to install, only when he turned on the water, H2O was still gushing out of one of the pipes. Closer examination found that whatever had happened in the water heater, it had super heated the PEX tubing and that was the 'explosion' that we had heard. The edges of the hole looked like they had been melted.

That stuff ain't supposed to do that so we don't know what went wrong with the old heater but something caused the water line to super heat and blow out a 2 inch hole in it.

But new heater is up and running and hot showers tonight!
