I just happened to think, can you get some shade cloth like they use in nurseries? I put some on and it really does dial down the direct sun. I think some places sell it by the foot. I got a prepackaged roll of it which was plenty for what I needed it for. Other than that you can put lawn chairs or anything they can get under or that can cast some shade.

Lowes sells it by the yard, it is located in the garden section.

My chicks are panting like crazy but still oven around well...they are in shaded area with fresh water and frozen 🍉which they demolished rather quickly!
I finally had "the talk" with hubby regarding us replacing our existing deck due to structural wear n tear as well as providing a larger coop and enclosing underneath the deck with hardware cloth to make that the run...I pray he will think on it n us do it before.too.much longer!

you folks are getting hit with some crap weather. Local news says that many folks living there do not have AC. Is that the truth?
That is quite true very often there is no such need out here temps are warm not blazing 101

Luckily mine is in the run so I can just leave it open
Yeah, I have the people door to the coop in the run. I leave it open all day until it's below about 20 degrees, or the wind is out of the north. There is some shade in the run at all times, thank goodness. There will be a lot less when the leaves are down, but by then, it won't be an issue. So glad we are leaving the coop up by the house and not moving it down by the garden.

It was partly sunny today. It didn't rain. The humidity is down to 85%. Pinch me, I'm dreaming.

Same here, I leave it open all of the time except when it freezes at night. If the wind and or rain are bad I prop it 3/4ths closed, just enough so they can come and go as they want.
it is 98 in the run right now and 101 in the coop- the door is closed. The chicks dont know that they will die in there.

Oh they are I have no illusions there even one hen that did not go in the coop at all came trotting up like high.. I have their door open both doors as right now there is a minimal breeze there is shade for all three yards
