Coffee's ready...

RE: Asperger's .. It apparently manifests differently in girls than boys .. That's why it's more frequently diagnosed in boys .. The parents of these boys have it harder, I think.

My DD17 is very smart, makes great grades, is very introverted, social outcast, social phobic, has a hard time making then keeping friends. Is very immature socially, and still obsesses over stuffed animals, online forums, drawing, reading, etc.

Someone steered me toward Asperger's and I've discovered other traits that are similar: Poor hygeine habits, wearing and sleeping in the same clothes day in and day out unless I make her bathe and change, Poor eating habits .. she eats very FEW things .. mostly because of "texture" issues .. And I've just this week discovered her repetative self-stimulating behavior (besides rocking) ..

She is college bound (on SAT scores alone) and I hope I have discovered this in time to get her some counselling and coping skills so that she can go on to be the next Bill Gates, Picasso, Mozart, or Albert Einstein. (Funny, we've always called her our little Einstein.)

She's still on the fence about it, but it has to be somewhat shocking to hear that your mom thinks you are autistic ..

But it is manageable .. so we'll do what we have to do.

Thanks.

There was a girl with Aspergers on America's Next Top Model a couple of seasons ago. Her name was Heather. We thought our youngest had it when she was little. She didn't talk until she was 2 1/2. Screamed all the time, kept her fist clenched, craved rocking and would fall asleep on her sit and spin (one of the few places she would sleep). She also refused to wear socks and shoes, hair ties, and hated any kind of change in her routine.

She went to the school OT for awhile in 4th grade and it was determined that she actually has a mild case of Sensory Integration Disorder. Her sense of smell and hearing are heightened, and her sense of touch is just wacky all together.

I hope your daughter finds peace with her diagnoses. It is nothing to be ashamed of and there are many people who have gone far with that diangoses.

I had never heard of it until my Daughter told me that that is what Scott has. He has had different school's, tutors, different Doctors, Dietitians. He also is extremely intelligent. Some times he can go out side and around people and some times not. Seems like things are working, (meds also)Then he will change. My Daughter said that boys had a harder time than girls. It effects the whole family. He has an older brother that is going to collage. He has lots of friends over when he is home. For the most part Scott will join in the group and talk about what ever they are. Cathy said you think wow, he is OK. Boom, back he goes, withdraw, or something.

Sorry to go on and on all. Some times you have to talk about it. Grandmothers you know.

I understand .. and things are making more sense to me. Any time we have people over, she just disappears ..

When she goes anywhere with her friends, or they come to the house .. it exhausts her. She comes home and says she needs to socially "detox" .. and will sleep for hours .. and avoid their phone calls for a few days ..

I'm just happy that she DOES go when she does .. there is a craving for friendship and socialization .. and total stress when she does .. poor baby.

That is the same thing that happens to Scott. I sure feel sorry for the children that have it. And the ones that the parents don't even know that have it. Special prayers for all the folks that are effected by it.

I just hate to see old trees go. Are you going to have it milled into lumber?

Don't mean to tease about the flip flops. We are just backwards. We hole up in the summer, and come alive in the winter.

Good Morning everyone! Big thunderboomer here today. I love a good fall rain, the air always smells so crisp afterwards.

Gonna go make a pot of coffee and run the daughter to swimming practice.

I guess the air here would best be deemed to be "brisk". It currently is 31 degrees so the coffee tastes particularily good this morning.

Opa, , yes Brisk would be a good call. BURRRRRRR. I love to go to the mountains this time of the year to look at the trees turning color. The best part is wearing a jacket and feeling cold on your cheeks after being in the desert all summer. It feels so good. Seeing the Elk and Deer. The air is so much cleaner and fresh smelling. Every one stay warm.

Who burns wood for all their heat? Who does both wood and another type of heat? What kind of wood do you burn? Do you have heat in your coop?
