Coffee's ready...

Good morning! Pouring rain here and it will continue all weekend - not weather conducive to working on my half finished coop. I built a woodstove fire to take the chill off the air, while I waited for the coffee to brew. Now sipping and reading - what a wonderful way to begin the day.

Mamagardener - I have a food drier and I love it. I often make beef jerky. I have also dried fruit and made fruit leather - apple, plum, peach, pear. I have also dried tomatoes for "sundried tomatoes." I use it to dry herbs, too. Have fun!

My hubby has to fix one thing on the drain for them tonight after drill and then I can use them.

I was going to do an undercover mission and run them to Chickbond 007's house.

How long until you are done with school??? I gotta know when to take the buzzles off (beak + muzzle = buzzle)

Luckily only two of the several crow right now since I live in Des Moines.

I use both the plastic bags and also the jar attachment that comes with the FoodSaver. Both work well but the jars allow you to reseal them.

The bantam Orpington have black hackle feathers and the body is bluish grey. I don't know enough about the breed coloring to know exactly what to call them other than beautiful.

Morning! It is a great day! We are picking up our processed steer today!

On the flip side, my dog smells like she rolled in something dead.

I pack most things in clean freezer bags and just store in my cool pantry. I cut the fruit leather in strips, roll it up and wrap it in plastic wrap, store it in a tin. When I make my lunch for work, I throw in a piece for dessert.
Sometimes, I will throw the jerky into the freezer, but usually I don't even do that. If food is dried properly, it should keep just about indefinitely. I have plum leather from two years ago (a good plum year) that is still just as good and tasty as when I made it.
