BF says there are five total, 4 Blue Rocks and 1 Ameraucana so far. He sent a picture of a really chubby one that poked it's head out. He said Sunshine is doing GREAT with them. When the get out from under her she is scooting them back in, and has not freaked out at all. I'm so proud of my little Sunshine! Now I can stop worrying about her mothering skills. I made one mistake, though. The front of the nest box is too high for them to get out of, so I put a little thing of water and food in the box. My BF found the smallest chick in the water when he got home from his appointment, so he put it under Sunshine again to warm up. He said it was cold, but still alert. Hope it is okay!

I am going to buy a nipple waterer on the way home. Wish I wasn't stuck here!

Oesdog - did you put some limits on the babysitting??? Hmm??? Tell them to take the baby with them when the "visit" - you've got to be exauhsted, and for the sake of your husbands health, you both need some rest and peace.

BTW - the first thing my Mom said when she came back yesterday and I told her I had been out for two with my son was, "You were out from work for TWO DAYS!! OH NO! I'm sorry - shoot!" (ie, sorry she wasn't here to watch him). And you wonder why I am the way I am about work, and why I have these crazy midwestern work ethics. It's all her fault. I reassured her it was okay, got caught up, not getting fired, etc.

Good morning everyone, enjoying my coffee and am so happy there are new chicks, I just love baby chicks and watching them grow up. The hardest thing is culling extra Roosters. How do you do it when they are so handsome?

Oh I am sorry - you really need to put that leg up!!!!!!! You know If I was there tired or not I would be out looking for your Chocolate Bantam!

I know we are tired - I am trying to get sorted out with Dotty but in the end I am worried about Jessica and I need to make sure she is ok and safe. I don;t want dotty just leaving her anywhere with anyone!

Tonopah Pati - good your on again!!!!! - Yes it is hard with extra Roos. We have two roos that need to go but they haven;t crowed yet? We are pretty sure they are boys. Sad to think they will need to be culled but in the end isn;t that what chickens are for FOOD???????????? I try my best to justify it like that and also that they have had a good life. DH wants piggys and goats and I just cannot keep everything??? I have another Roo I am hiding in the garage because he has the blue egg gene!!!!!! If only they didn't crow we could keep them longer!!!!!!!!!!!!!! - The NEW chicks are great news from Chicks !!!!!!!

Good morning chicken wranglers

My coffe is good but now it is almost beer thirty. Momma said no brewskies this evening but it is friday and that outwieghs her authority on that subject.
Tono culling is a table matter do it young and freeze for winter stew.
All ya'll with the new chicks are tooo numerous to count but not too numerous to congradulate. So there yare.congrats!
God Bless!

I'm up to seven out of eight!!

What a great hatch! I will leave the eight one for now, but there doesn't seem to be any peeping or movement, so I think it's a dud. I have two Ameraucana and five Blue Plymouth Rocks. Two of the Rocks are much much darker, though, so I will have to ask the breeder I got the eggs from about that. Here are some pics:

Actually, Karl, it is just everyone being very excited for me about my chicks!! And yes, on a Friday night, beer trumps all.

Wow they are lovely - beautiful. The other egg may not be a dud yet. Leave it under her it may hatch tomorrow. I had 3 hatch one day and the last one the following day. I also had incubator eggs hatch out days after their due day. I would say if your girl is sitting on it it probably has something in it. If she gets up to wander and poo then probably a dud. Leave it for about 3 days and see.

Oesdog - brillient !!!!!!!!!!! Edited this to tell you Chicks - My Bertha has just stopped brooding her chicks she has sat on them every night and squished them for 18 weeks!!!!!! Finally she has allowed them on the roost bar and joined them - just to make sure they are safe!!!!

OMG those are adorable! I've gotta stop looking at these pics of cute fuzzy chicks or I'll be tempted! My Buffy just finally started laying - we got a second egg today! And I expect the other girls will follow her example in a month or two. So I do not need chicks. I do not need chicks. I DO NOT need chicks. (I'll just keep telling myself that...

)

I am really happy today cuz my DH
love.gif
got GREAT news yesterday from his doctor. Background: DH's undergoing treatment for hepC he got back in the 80s from a blood transfusion. The specialist told him he needed to do it now because in 20 years, he would need a liver transplant and the chances of getting one of those in his 70s is low. So he started the interferon and ribavirin about 8 weeks ago and does blood tests every two weeks to check the effectiveness and to watch for bad side effects (like anemia). So far, crossing my fingers and knocking on wood, DH is having pretty minimal side effects.

So, yesterday, the specialist called to say DH's response to the treatment so far is the best the doc has ever seen in his career!

I'm so relieved; I just had to tell someone!
