Coffee's ready...

Glad were talking eggs - I have had NO eggs in weeks. My PR - who went on a bad moult has only laid about 3 eggs since June?
I have 3 young girls who wont lay for another few weeks. 3 roos who wont lay at all !!!! He he - hiding them with the girls though!
So then I have only 5 potential layers out of my flock of 11 birds!!!! One the PR DRUMSTICK hasn't laid since June really. BERTHA
had the chicks and is old and past her lay anyhow. She is a great Broody SS though. So now were down to three. Gerty my Maran
and head chick!, Isobella and caroline. They stoped laying when I put Bertha and the babies in with them about 3/4 weeks back!
So that is it - I have 3 eggs in my egg basket and nothing more. - I will be buying eggs - Ahhhhhh

Sounds like you have a bunch of slackers, Oesdog! Hope they get with the program for you soon. I'm getting about 5-6 eggs a week from both the Barred Rock and the Production Red, and 4-5 a week from the Marans. The older of the two EE's is very red in the face, but no green eggs yet!

Rancher, you should breed that big-egg laying Bantam - how economical for city folks with limited space! I'd get some. I don't have Bantams because I like the big girls laying big eggs, but it would be nice to be able to keep more chickens in the same amount of space and get more eggs!

Well, I ordered my new patio furniture and am feeling a bit guilty for spending the money, but my old furniture is really ratty and we do spend so much time outside. I think I may host Thanksgiving this year and set up outdoors if it is nice.

Math Ace - I'm pretty sure my son does have allergies now. We did end up going to that Birthday party yesterday at a park. By the time we left, he was so congested and had a hard time sleeping last night. He was still complaining this morning about his nose. Poor kid was definately not born into the right family to have allergies to the outdoors!!

Well, have a great day, chicken friends!

Morning all
My girls are slacking yes they are. Perhaps its the cold - 3/4 here last night.
I want sunshine back -

We took the dogs for a long and very cold walk along the beach this morning. Was glad to get back for a nice cup of coffee.

Chicks - have you thought of getting your boy tested for Asthma???? Sounds a bit like it to me, has he got night coughing?

Just a thought?

Good morning chickren wranglers
oesdog my girls aren't laying well either. I've lost a lot of good hens to varmits this year. Friday I went out after dark and the hens were raising cain , since I was on my way to shut the coop anywhow, "They squabble over the best roosting positions constantly" so I didn't think much of it. Well when I got to the coop one of the "I thought " chickens jumped out of the coop door. But when it flew over the fence and kept going I knew that I had trouble . Sure enough ther was a dead chicken in the coop. When I went out last night there was a dead girl but she was cold so it must have been an afternoon kill.
When I see the owl and I know it is a great horned owl he may suffer from same malidy not uncommon among preditors in this neck of the woods.
Ya'll have a good day, God Bless!

My teenager was being, well, a teen this morning.

Last week he's like "MOM stop NAGGING me in the morning!"
Today, he's like "Whoa, how'd it get so LATE?!" (It was 20 minutes after school start.)

I said - I woke you up an hour before we're supposed to leave. Now you understand why I nag you. How *should* I wake you up? You don't want the light on?

Too bad he's not like the chickies - awake at dawn, waiting for their morning treat...

Since this is the Coffee thread I thought I would share this with you all.

Subject: THE MAYONNAISE JAR AND COFFEE

THE MAYONNAISE JAR AND COFFEE
When things in your life seem almost too much to
handle, when 24 hours in a day are not enough,
remember the mayonnaise jar...and the coffee...
A professor stood before his philosophy class and had
some items in front of him.

When the class began,
wordlessly, he picked up a very large and empty
mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf
balls. He then asked the students if the jar was full.
They agreed that it was.

So the professor then picked up a box of pebbles and
poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly.
The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the
golf balls. He then asked the students again if the
jar was full. They agreed it was.

The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured
it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up
everything else. He asked once more if the jar was
full. The students responded with a unanimous
"yes."
The professor then produced two cups of coffee from
under the table and poured the entire contents into
the jar, effectively filling the empty space between
the sand. The students laughed.
"Now," said the professor, as the laughter subsided,
"I want you to recognize that this jar represents your
life. The golf balls are the
important things-your God, family, your children, your
health, your friends, and your favorite
passions-things that if everything else was lost and
only they remained, your life would still be full. The
pebbles are the other things that matter like your
job, your house, and your car. The sand is everything
else-the small stuff.

"If you put the sand into the jar first," he
continued, "there is no room for the pebbles or the
golf balls. The same goes for life. If you spend all
your time and energy on the small stuff, you will
never have room for the things that are important to you.
Pay attention to the things that are critical to your
happiness. Play with your children. Take time to get
medical checkups. Take your partner out to dinner.
Play another 18. There will always be time to clean
the house and fix the disposal. Take care of the golf
balls first, the things that really matter. Set your
priorities. The rest is just sand."

One of the students raised her hand and inquired what
the coffee represented. The professor smiled. "I'm
glad you asked. It just goes to show you that no
matter how full your life may seem, there's always
room for a couple of cups of coffee with a friend."

So I have to ask, how many golf balls and pebbles will fit in the jar. How many pounds of sand? And what if I like more than two cups of coffee? Does that coffee have cream and sugar or is it black. Cuz I hate black coffee. do I get to pick the friend or can it be a relative? Can I substitute something so i can have a biscuit with the coffee? Sorry just teasing.

Who makes applesauce and do you have a special recipe? do I need to have a pressure cooker to can it. I'm sick and tired of throwing apples away. Have you read that the average family throws away 25% of their food? Most of that produce? Is there away to save cider? Other than letting it get hard? Right now it's $2 cheaper per gallon.

Is it okay with you if I copy it and share it with friends on another thread?

It isn;t mine - I didn;t write it and I don;t know where it originally came from.
It was sent to me a couple of years ago by my adopted Dad - so you can copy it all you want.
He wouldn;t have sent me something that you couldn;t copy. I think he probably got sent it
through his church work.

I came across it again and thought I should share that since it was about coffee!!!!
