Coffee's ready...

Good morning all you coffee and tea drinkers, I just slid up to the coffee bar, and I'm just having my first cup. Had to make scrambled eggs for my dogs, before I could drink my coffee. They sure love eggs.

I have another wonderful day coming on. Getting a red, red, sunrise this morning. It is like spring weather in the desert now, and I had to plant some flowers yesterday. Snap Dragons mixed colors, and red geraniums. They sure did brighten up my Patio. I also got 2, 5 gallon desert shrubs (forgot the name) they have purple flowers, withstand cold and the extreme heat we get in the desert. I just have to decide where I will plant them. You can also cut off the stems and root them in water. I think I will cut the stems before I plant them. I was watering my chili pepper plant yesterday and found 1 bush that had a black bell pepper, I didn't think I had bell peppers in this pot, I thought they were all chili peppers. What a gift. I shell pick when ready and roast them on the grill. Yum! Yum!

Have a super day all, and keep those chickens happy.

Hi folks,

I did not know that about apple seeds but will remember. It's to late now though and they seem ok but won't make that mistake again.

Since it's fall and winter is nigh, anyone got special plans for changes in their flock for the spring? Any one adding or substracting a breed for another, that they didn't like this time around? I keep a mixed flock and got rid of the hatchery Aussies and SLW this year. Plan to get some Rhode Island Rds and some BR's.

Will be getting rid of two year old CM's and GLWs and two DOMs. and the older Dels. Only have a Del roo so will be hatching eggs for replacement birds on those. Oh yeah and I might keep the BO 's as they go broody. The CM's and a DOM have but broodies aren't as rare as I thought.

I have a lazy hen. She doesn't lay until about 10am, sometimes later!

Got the teen up and out today - yesterday, he was home sick. Today, he was tardy. Ugh. Got a call that he's been tardy 6 times (not a surprise) to his first period class and that he'll have detention. (That means he has to come in early on Friday instead of sleeping in for the late start day. Maybe he'll learn? Nahhhh.

I'm getting bids this week from 4 companies for installing solar. I'm looking forward to getting that so I don't have to worry about the electric bills so much. I got the new MacBook Air yesterday and it's still transferring files from my old computer. (Think maybe I had too many files?)

I'm looking forward to having it finish so I can take it with me today to my 2:30 appointment.

I should update my sig: right now we have:
1 dog Ernest; 2 cats: Rowdy and Emily; 3 hens: Buffy the EggLayer (Buff Orpington), Willow (Wellsummer) and Stella (Sicilian Buttercup); and a royal python named Monty.

Belated greetings, folks. I've been busy today!

Annaraven - I've been thinking about solar. My friends have panels for their hot water heater. Are you doing it just for the hot water, or for electiric for the whole house?
Some of my birds must be really lazy - they don't lay till the afternoon!

Rancher - what is a DOM?

Oesdog - thanks for the tip! I just gave them apple pieces the other day that included a few seeds and cores. Good to know about the arsnic. I'll make sure I don't them to my rabbit anymore, either!

Is it normal to be able to see you chicken's crop sort of hanging down? I can always see it bulging on most of my girls, but the Marans' crop looks especially big and pronounced. She is acting just fine, but BF keeps asking about it and worrying. I told him I just think she is a big pig-chicken.

Well, time to finish up for the day and run to the feed store. Those babies are eating me out of house and home! I'll be getting rid of at least half of them next weekend. So far I swear it looks like only one of them is a roo! Sunshine, the magic pullet-making broody!

Have a good afternoon!

We're looking at going solar electric for the house. We've got great exposure on the roof for it. We also want to get a hotwater system... One company claims we've got room for both. I'm hoping so.

Believe me if I could get there I'd be there. I just gave some eggs to Trish to set for us. I've really got to go to Alabama and I don't trust anyone else to watch them for me. I should have loaned her my new Gen 1588. She only has a couple of LG's..

A Dom is a Dominique. They are a cold hardy rosecomb breed. I have two. They lay fairly well, but a medium egg. While some say they are quite and calm these two are bossy squawkers. Of course they're "hatchery" girls, so you never know whats in there.

oesdog, I did not give you my cold. The only thing I've ever given you is a hard time.

I do hope you feel better alot sooner than I have.

Take care all

Rancher
