Glad to hear you're feeling better!

I mailed my ballot in a while ago, but it's always good to remind folks who don't have that option to go vote. Even though it's "just midterms", it's still important to vote.

All the costumes are adorable! Gives me "grandbaby fever" though...

Met with a third solar installer this morning. DH and I like her; the only company that came in with a smaller system and didn't try to show us a really high quote first to make their smaller quote "look good".

I'm looking forward to seeing the meter run backwards!

oesdog: those are great. I bet she swayed alot of candy. My little rat's boy friends daughter was a "kitty cat" this year. She is about 3 - 4 yrs.

annaraven: We have solar thermal here and I have to say, I am pretty pleased with it. We used 39 gals of oil from the end of April to a week ago. Usually we would have used close to 120 gals. I have to ask, in you area, if the grid goes offline, will your photov shut down? I know someone that has both thermal and photo and when the grid goes down, he had to get a back up generator to keep the thermal from over heating because his photov would shut down.

We'll be getting solar electric and yes, the system is set up so if the grid goes down, it shuts off our system. The excuse is they don't want to feed back power into the grid so the repairmen don't get fried. It is harder/more expensive to arrange things so that it won't flow back into the system - especially since you *WANT* excess to flow back and make your meter run backward...

Morning/afternoon people, Rise and shine.......

Coffee's strong and the smell is in the air, with a mixture of the wood stove as it crackles in the back ground. A hard frost has left it's mark on the windshields last night. Ole Mr. Roo is up and making a racket.

Ohhh no story time:
The oldest rat and I went out and picked up some venison last night. I told her a story about her helping me hang a deer one time. She must have been about 7 - 8 yrs and she wanted to "help" daddy hang his deer. So I had her hold the deer while I lifted. I told her she had a "important" job and not to let go of the rope. As I lifted the deer, she with all her might, pulled on the rope. Being who I am, well after we had the deer off the ground, I let go of it. Well here she came, skipping across the floor hanging onto the rope. When it was all over, the deer was on the floor and she was on her tippy toes, still hanging onto the rope. I am glad "mom" didn't see it, we'd both be in trouble.

Working on the lathe turning bowls and pepper mills today. No looking forward to the leaves to do soon ( next week). Stir fry with rice noodles for supper tonight.

annaraven: what always perplexed me with having to shut the solar down when the grid went off line, are backup generators. Power goes off, generator kicks on, power comes on, generator kicks off. No feed back onto the grid. You think they could use the type of switch. I have asked and just got a look and never a answer. I am no electrician, and really a coward when it comes to electric. I have a whole pile of respect for it. I use to have to work around .75 - 1" lines, and it wasn't pleasant for me when what hair I had would stand up on end.

Enjoy the day.

Good Morning! A quick note before my 7:30 meeting, where we go through all the referrals of trouble-making kids the teachers have sent us. I actually kind of enjoy brainstorming about how to best help them get their act together, but the meeting often gets quite LONG. At least I have donuts to bring to it today!

I've really got to look into getting some solar panels. Maybe I'll make some calls over Thanskgiving break.

Great story, Kaj!

At least she had the spunk in her to keep holding on!! That says something.
Your description of a cold morning with a fire going and hot coffee just makes me jealous. At least it is finaly cooling off again for a few days, starting today. Lows in the 50's even!! Whoo - hoo! Highs in the 70s. Should be perfect for the chicken swap.

I think my Marans layed two eggs within 16 hours - is that possible? I swear we looked before they all settled in for the night, and there were no eggs. Then when BF got home, he found one dark speckled one in one nest box, and one dark one without seckles in the box usually reserved for Sunshine and her brood. I have my EE that hasn't layed an egg yet (23 weeks), and my Olive Egger, who is only 20 weeks. I certainly hope it wasn't one of theirs, as I am looking forward to green eggs! A mystery.

Well, gotta get to my meeting. Have a good one!

quercus21 - funny, kids do the funniest things.

Woke up today witha really really bad thumping headache. Not a good start. No coffee for me today then.

I am sat in the office having completed a few of my many tasks for the day. I cleaned out the box in the garage that Omlet and Blue are sleeping in at the moment.
It is too cold for them outside in their little run. Its ok for daytime but not for this time of year at night. Its really a rabbit run with a little shelter and even a rabbit would die of cold in that thing!!!! It is damp and leeks and is not at all good but it serves a purpose for keeping Blue and Omlet away from the others while they grow and get strong. I just have to bring them in at night. So I cleaned that out this morning and put a good load of newspaper and hay inside it. It stays on top of the outside freezer as they get the heat from the back of it too! - They are my spoiled ones!!!!

I just made the chickens some porridge - oh and they had left over roast potato cut up in it. Figures the oil on them will be good for their croop's! And they also got sliced up banana through it too!!!!! They go mad over that!!! Anyhow the big girls don;t know its there yet because they all escaped when I oopend the run to grab thir treat plate! I am just not feeling up to running after them and so I am sat here watching them decimate the veg patch instead? -

They are looking good though lovely and big again and most all feathered out. I am glad to see our Drumstick with some clothes on!!!! Poor critter spent the best part of 4 months practically naked!!! I am hoping someone will lay me a dern egg soon as DH sharpened the axe!!!!! Had to sneek more Layers in as we ran out and Dh will through a fit if he finds out they ate it all and never gave back one single egg!!!!!!!! ( They are really in trouble so some prayin might help!!!) Anyhow they are getting fish and yogurt later too! I am feeding them loads of stuff at the moment to try to get the to lay!!!!!

I have to clean out their coop but loads of giant spiders moved in when the weather started to get bad - and I just know if I go inside they will kill me!!!!!! I am terrified of them!!!! They jump on you and suck your blood!!!!!!!!! So anyhow you would have thought the girls would have eaten them but NO!

So I stand at the door now and yell goodnight instead of doing my usual cuddles! I am sure DH could um go and deal with the spider infestation?????

Anyhow better go and round up the girls before DH gets home and sees them digging the spuds up!!!!!
