Coffee's ready...

It's a meet, and for entertainment I decided to set off our bonfire pile for the first time this year.
WE are not too far from Decatur. Why do you ask? Do you think you can come? That would be great!

My late husband is from Decatur, and my in-laws are still there during the summer. Joliet sounded familiar. I haven't been up there in a while, as they are here all winter so I see them plenty then.

That meet-up sounds like fun! Next year maybe I'll go visit them in the summer and you could have another meet-up and I could meet you and Karl both!!

I belive the plan was that this would be a traveling meet. We tried to do it it Decatur first but the response was low and there was no overnight accomondations to be be had other than a hotel room. If you drive hours to get somewhere, party, converse, play etc., it's best you don't have to drive home tired. The person who ws hosting in Decatur couldn't offer camping at their place and we would have had it at a public park. I belive it will be some where else next year. I am open to hosting it again ( barring any trouble at this years event) but I belive it would be more fair to have another person host it at their farm in another local. There are some people who would like to come to my farm but it is too far - perhaps the next year it will be closer to them.

Check in time,

Chics - We're already discussing how we're going to miss her. DD stops over after work just to see Darcy. She's the only GC we have close by. The others are in AL and TX. Airfare has gotten up there so I won't be going for a while. Of course if I had the money I'm spending on chickens I could go.

It's hysterical but I have a chicken girl and when we Skype she's wants me to go get a chicken so she can see one.

Paradise - I'm full of saying like those. Well I'm full of something anyhow. Never take anything I say to heart. I have a strange sense of humor and never mean a cross word. Sometimes folks take offense but such is life.

Winters coming on and I'm not a happy camper about that. I hate the snow cuz it's makes my bones hurt. Of course they already hurt but the cold makes them hurt more. Oesdog I don't know how DH does it over there in the cold.

Everyone else I missed have a nice day and don't text and drive,

Evening everyone,
We did a nice little hump today call "Diamond Notch". No views, but a lot of mist and drizzle. The best part is coming up, going out to dinner for what some people call "fish bait" and plum wine.

Enjoy you evening.

Good Morning All!
We're getting prepped for the Chicken Meet at our farm Saturday. Busy making more room - making things organized while moving out of a house and into this one. Our taj Ma Hall is looking like
Trash Ma Hauled.
I lost another precious thing last night. My Father dropped the lid of my Tiffany's ciggarette box. I was a gift from my best friend noow dead. I looked at Tiffany's website and they no longer make it. I love my Dad. But he does things that just make me shake my head. Like using the side of my truck to push trees into the bonfire...yes I now drive a crappy loooking truck.
I know I should not be so attacthed to "things" owning nice ones and the way they look, and I know it makes me sound shallow, but I am greiving for the loss fo something I touched every day and was reminded of the love of a best freind now gone.
I feel so sad. And I am angry I put so much worth on an inanimate object. People tell me I am the most caring person they have ever known, so why am I so shallow?

Hey everyone, Hope all is well with you and yours.

Posted pics of the new hoop coop on the SDWD posting if you'd like to have a look.

Sent some chickens to the auction yesterday so I'm down 8. I figure I'm at 45 or so. No new birds till spring. Have lots to clean from the ones that are gone and hope to modify things for easy cleaning. The new hoop coop should be easier, I just hope they do well in the winter. I will put a thermometer inside it to keep an eye on things. Chickens generate quite a bit of heat.

Raining today so no outside work but can do somethings inside. DW wants the dishes done and I hate to wash dishes.

take care everyone and be good,

Morning People,
Looks like we are getting all your rain here Ranger. Yesterday was all down pours, so far this morning, it's been a nice easy rain.

Ranger: Your hoop house looks good. Are you going to be moving it around?

We are off to see the little rat tomorrow. Maybe a meandering trip home through Vermont.

Another shop day today. BBQ chicken cordon blue for supper, corn on the cob, maybe a veggie salad.

Enjoy your day

Morning folks,

Hope everyone is enjoying good weather. It's raining here and some say we need it but I don't. Too bad we can't move it to Texas. If I ran Texas I'd look into a pipe system to move flood waters in the north to a Texas storage system. Much like the oil pipe line in Alaska.

Que - while they can be put on wheels for moving our yard is too uneven to do that. Plus I physically couldn't do it myself, which is why I'd like to put a run on the back too. Also I plan to make the run bigger, maybe twice as big. I plan to keep the housing of chickens to a minimum of 10-12. I'm always looking for easier ways to do things and I hope this will be easier to clean. With a door to the run big enough to push a wheel barrow through it should be easier to shovel the crud and into it. With two runs I an rotate the use of them so the grass will stay. I'll have to see how long it takes before things look bad. I hope with bigger runs I can keep them on one side for a week and then let them into the other side for a week. I plan to cover the runs with clear plastic for the winter to they can go out into the run during the cold weather. Of course an extension cord to the coop would be nice or some type of electrical source for lighting. I suppose a black tarp can be used in the winter to absorb heat and the one I have is reversible to black but I haven't planned to do that. There are vents above each door. My main concern now is getting to the coop in the winter. I hope the snow blower will make the trip out there. I have a big machine but the ground needs to be solid enough to take the weight. I'll post pics when the snow comes. Right now I can move the machine to the original coop.

The queen and hers are supposed to move at the end of the month. We will miss her and she is so sweet. Lord have mercy we will miss her. She's so well behaved but like our own we have to have her home and in bed by 8. I hate when we are in the store and there is someone with a screaming baby or child who is just too tired and should be home.

September is coming on and the State Fair starts soon. It's a time for those who don't go away to have some fun I guess. I like to go and see what's new but wish they'd change things up a bit. My favorite of course is the animals. I actually considered getting a couple of sheep last year.

Also DW and I plan to take a trip to Maine for our 35th. And they said it wouldn't last. I have no idea how we did it, except with out the Lord we never would have. We don't have specifics yet but just getting away together will be nice. We are of course open to suggestions.

Well that's it for now, Take care folks.
