Coffee's ready...

Oh, good! I never had my FBCM as a chick, so it was funny how they have the copper color all over instead of just around the neck like they do (or should) as adults. Maybe next year we will have better luck. It does look like all four chicks my broody hatched are are pullets, though (but I lost the white one). Maybe I'll just do broodies from now on.

If you are seeing copper on it now - - - you may lose it as it grows.
I can't see the copperiness from the picture you posted.

Most are black and white as chicks. I have had a few that had spots of copper on them as babies

Can you see the copper spot of the eye lid on this one ? ?

Hmmm.... that one was almost all black with a white underbelly as a chick. I'll PM you a better picture from home later - I know I took some that show the copper more. It's a very even pattern of copper all over, almost like a partridge rock or barnvelder.

For some reason. my chicks tend to have more white on them than a lot of chick photos I see posted on the marans thread. Then again, I have issues with the white undercoat..... ummm I wonder if those two things are related? ?

I'll look forward to seeing your photos.

It's much too late for coffee now, but I just had to drop in and say I FINISHED THE NEW COOP! I still need to move the brooder later, but for now the chickens are moved into the aviary with the ducks, pigeons, and older babies. Hope they all get along!

Everyone's gotta check out the all-important nest boxes - which are the same ones but painted all nice and pretty.

I also got our second duck egg today, and it's HUGE. The first one was smaller than a chicken egg. I'm not sure if the will always be this big.

Morning folk, up early couldn't sleep.

Chicken didn't know it was morning it's so dark out. Irene is here for just a bit. No big deal just rain. Hope anyone here in her path survived unscathed.

Chics - looks good. Is it ok to leave it open like that? No preds where you are? Like the ducks. Should have probably got ducks. It gets so wet here.

Karl - you never gave me an answer on eggs.

Well take care folks,

Rancher

Good morning! I wish I could see the video, but I have no sound on my computer since my rabbit chewed through the wire a few months ago. He doesn't get to hop around indoors any more.

The coop is actually inside a completely enclosed aviary. I do need to fill in a few gaps and sew together the panels of sun-cloth on the roof, though. I lost one of my doves somehow, and the rabbit found a few spots where the cinder blocks burried along the perimiter must not be quite high enough to meet the bottom panels. He dug himself out a few times, but I think we've got them all blocked off now.

Rancher, good to know Irene isn't causing too much of a problem for you.

Have a good day, folks!
