Coffee's ready...

Try giving them fresh water from a different source, refresh it each day, see if that helps.

Thanks - we have been giving them fresh tap water with tylan in it. As we have the soluble form. As for the water butt - it is inside the edge of the free range area so they can get access to it when it drips. It has been there for years and never given us any bother. But you never know. - I don't fill their water feeders from it anyhow it is just for watering the plots. But I was thinking as it came from the guttering and they could in theory take from the tap when it was dripping it could be a source?
You kind of get despirate to find an answer and I guess I am grabbing straws! No more deaths and the ones left look healthy and sound well again. No coughs or raspy breaths and the combs are full and bright red. But then - we have to get over that 4-6 weeks. Some of the girls that died were looking real well to only 48 hrs before they died. It takes hold very fast whatever it is. Within 72 hrs of them getting full symptoms they died no matter what I did. But the tylan is helping - but is it just holding back the inevitable.
If we lose another girl we will have to get a Necropsy - as we will have to probably cull all and start over. Chances are they will die anyhow so better to do it fast than let them suffer.
Wee Aggy and florry are most upset and Aggy follows me about and wants lifted all the time and cuddled - then Florry gets upset and starts pulling at my pant leg for her sister. It has been hard on them more than the others I think. They are the two "rescues" that arrived in a bag along with Dorothy who sadly died first. They have been here for a few years so nothing to do with where they came from but Dorothy had had IB at one stage and survived it. Though this I think made her weakened to this infection that started in January. Dorothy always suffered more than the others during the winter months so we didn;t take much notice of her rasping until it was too late and she had passed. But then Drumstick had been bullying her and stomped her into the mud - Drummy died next?
Drummy used to sleep with Bertha in the nest box She died next. We changed coop but Gerty started to sleep where her sister did in the nest box - She died next. Gerty and Mable palled about together after Bertha died as Mable was Bertha's chick. Mable died last. - After that Betty, florry and Aggy all showed signs of rasping and Caroline had taken to the nest box and did not come out unless forced. ( Maybe they just went to that because they felt unwell and not because it may have been the source of infection? After all this is not the same coop we had at the start of this in January as it was all changed!)
Caroline is now out with the others fine and there is little sign of rasping from anyone. But I am still concerned because I simply have no idea what killed them?

Morning People,
I hope everyone is surviving this heat spell. I was talking with someone from Tampa Fl, they came north thinking it was going to be cool then down south. They are about ready to head back home were it is cooler then here. They said the left 80's for high 90's to low 100's. It feels like this morning the temps did break.

Enjoy the day

Good morning chicken wranglers,
Guess I went and left you lonely. Seems ,Ya'll migrated off of the thread While I was away.
Hope all is well with you guys and gals and your flock is laying properly . I butchered all of mine except for 6 girls that are still on the hoof. No more layers for me ,only meat birds and they are all in the barn. On a good note one of my cows "moonshine is her name" had twins. They are a heffer and a bull calf and are as cute as can be.
God Bless

Good morning chicken wranglers,
Sounds not so good rngr. Hope I'm not misinterpreting the message, .I do hope the house sells soon. And the rest of your dilemma comes full circle to an improved position.
God Bless!

Karl, from your lips to God's ear We just signed a P&S agreement. Less than what we were hoping for but livable if they agree to our requests. Now pray that we find our new home in Louisville that meets our needs and price and is close enough to our daughter.

Why no more layers? Good luck with the calves. I was given to understand with mixed gender twins the bull calf would be sterile. Was this just an olde farmers tale?
