Coffee's ready...

Good morning chicken wranglers,
Rngr, I've heard the wives tale also but haven't the conclusion, as this is my first set of twins . He has good joints and will make a great steer if this is the case. I've no more layers because the varmits found out where they stay. Coyotes coons and owls decimated the flock, and I only raise meat birds and cattle now. Gargoyle good to hear from you!
God Bless!

Karl, from your lips to God's ear We just signed a P&S agreement. Less than what we were hoping for but livable if they agree to our requests. Now pray that we find our new home in Louisville that meets our needs and price and is close enough to our daughter.

Why no more layers? Good luck with the calves. I was given to understand with mixed gender twins the bull calf would be sterile. Was this just an olde farmers tale?

Bill
It is my understanding that the bull is fine, but the heifer is sterile. My sister had a heifer years ago that was twin to a bull, (called a freemartin) and she came up sterile. The heifer, not my sister.

Good morning chicken wranglers,
Sterile bulls , heifers, and a pair of painful twins . I had forgotten how much fun we have just sipping coffee.
Canning is upon us. My lovely wife pickled 24 quarts, and canned 3 quarts of salsa. She is a gem.
I have been feeding left over gardening stuff to the chickens .2 weeks of that butcher them to see if it makes them tastier. whata ya think?
I am troubled by the sterility in question. My hope was to steer the bull calf and breed the heifer. but be that as it may we will see in about 19 mos.

We do have fun! I'm jealous. We did not plant because we thought we had a buyer. (closer this time but still no cigar). I miss the smell of the pickle factory and the gallons of sauce. Boy do I have dill. Not tilling all that came up was one big field of dill.

Good morning chicken wranglers,
Dill? My wife would be jealous she loves dill . I cannot imagine waking up to the smell of dill on the air. When she make pickles it can actually take you breath away. We have wild spearmint and when we mow that is the aroma that one get to savor. Good luck with the sale I will be praying for you .
God Bless!

Mint around the foundation. keeps the ants out.

Boy do I have dill. Not tilling all that came up was one big field of dill.
If the ground slopes towards your house and you have water problems around your foundation, plant dill, and the water will run uphill away from the foundation. That is because dill waters run steep.
