Coffee's ready...

We purchased this house in Central New York State from two elderly sisters. Winter was fast approaching and I was concerned about the house's lack of insulation. "If they could live here all those years, so can we!" my wife said. One November night the temperature plunged to below zero, and we woke up to find interior walls covered with frost. My wife called the sisters to ask how they had kept the house warm. After a rather brief conversation, she hung up. "For the past 30 years," she muttered, "they've gone to Florida for the winter."

Rancher - I love it.

Mom and Dad bought a home in Florida 40 years ago. First thing my father did was 'winterize' the home. "It's not gonna be warm here all of the time." Bet that you prepared for the next winter.

Ya got me.

I grew up in a house where ice formed on the windows every night.

The radiator in my bedroom was nonfunctional.
Well now this is the truth.
We had one of those Octopus coal furnaces converted to gas. I'm sure there was no insulation in the walls. The upstairs was so cold. We also did not have a lot of sheets. My mother would close off the upstairs but being the only boy I would rather sleep up stairs. I've now got what ever the word is for buying sheets, socks and underwear. Oh and soap and toothpaste too. DW laughs because I buy soap all the time or toothpaste.

I know there are those older than me that have what is known as the depression syndrome. Excessively frugal.

We could have worse problems right?
