Coffee's ready...

Yeah, here you can't become a millionaire by pouring a cup of coffee in your lap. Usually, if found guilty, the defendant would have to pay the legal expenses for the other party, plus some sort of compensation, but those are more realistic around here. In most cases it's in the hundreds to a couple thousand euros, sometimes maybe around ten thousand in bad cases, but that's already a brutal assault or something similar. Also, I don't think anyone would even think about making a fuss about their kid being stupid enough to faceplant from a swing or something, unless there is gross negligence involved. But just having a swing set would not count as that, you don't need a man in a orange vest watching it 24/7.
Here if you have a swing set in your yard and kids come and get hurt you can be sued. It's called an Attractive Nuisance. It's strange how that cup of coffee has become so famous.

"There is a lot of hype about the McDonalds' scalding coffee case. No one is in favor of frivolous cases of outlandish results; however, it is important to understand some points that were not reported in most of the stories about the case. McDonalds coffee was not only hot, it was scalding -- capable of almost instantaneous destruction of skin, flesh and muscle."

You can google it for the WHOLE story. I wasn't surprised I could find it. Now days everything is on the internet.

Too we must keep in mind that many times it's a jury that is making the awards.

But I think you got my point about liability laws here. Some are just ridiculous.

Quote: They are quite famous. But I would be more mad if I got a cold cup of coffee, you need 92C water to make coffee properly, so I sort of expect it to be hot. And if I remember the case correctly, the person was holding it between his/her legs while driving when it happened. Should have been charged with endangering traffic instead. (That's what would of happened here.)

On the contrary her grandson was driving and had stopped the car. Too there were numerous cases where customers had sustained third degree burns with McDonalds coffee. The media is good at winding us up. That's why I googled it.

Just like now with GM and their lawsuit for their cars. One of which we now own. GM knew the ignitions were faulty. Therefore they bear 100% liability.

Not all lawsuits are frivolous.

Rngr checking in. Up to 3 eggs regularly now. Just inherited a pair of Banties Put the roo in the freezer right away. Voice is not commensurate with size.
Have had family visiting and chores for DD. plus getting away camping with her and her boat.
Speaking of liability issues we had a "Tempwood" wood burning stove. It was a wonderful air tight down draft stove. In order to get it UL listed they had to put a warning on it: "CAUTION, Hot when in use." Really a wood burning stove hot when in use what a novel idea!

Had a cousin who had to sue his parents in order to sue the company that installed their carpeting on the hall stairwell and the insurance company. Parents weren't held liable but had to named in the suit anyway. Got to love those lawyers.

Any news from OES or Q???? Are you lerking like I was.

Morning People,

We were out playing in the woods. Campground camping and some fire tower hikes. One tower we did, there was a pile of rocks at the beginning and they had a sign asking for you to take one to the top.

Medical costs can be a lot and in some cases your'e required to sue or pay the charges yourself.

When I was bit by a dog as a letter carrier, I had to file by the PO so THEY could recoup their money. Of course the owner of said dog should have done this willingly but folks don't.

As for Lurkers, you folks should just log in so we know your'e still with us.

Very nice. I'm getting antsy for a vacation or just to get away. With DW on chemo her immune system is down so she can't go out much. They say she's cancer free but this is just to get any microscopic cells that might be floating around. What are fire tower hikes?

On CBS this guy wrote a book about walking and how we sit too much. I think he's right.

My next door neighbor passed away today from cancer. We weren't close friends, just over the fence talk, but still it's amazing how much it bothers you.

Just got back from a local county fair. Had an incredible piece of wineberry/peach crumb pie with a scoop of home made vanilla ice cream at one of the grange stands -

They had 15 or so different pies - I wanted a piece of each.
