Good morning chicken wranglers,
Only 2 eggs yesterday. I feel depressed! What a let down after the day before. Dawgone undependable chickens!
Just like the weather and the guy that predicts it.
Did y'all hear that this is going to be the record setting cold weather winter? I will believe it when I see it. Unfortunately I will have to see it if it happens!
Best start cutting wood and getting all the amenities in place for it is far better to have and not need than to need and not have!

Well now I think "depressed" is an over used and exaggerated term. I'm not sure what breeds you have but I always suggest a mix. When one breed lets up another may carry you through.

For me I keep Delaware of course, C. Rocks, B. Marans, EE's, B. Rocks and the occasional frizzle. Dels are my best layers and the marans are good winter layers. I also keep a mix of ages. Even in this type of coop with the door wide open I can count on a few eggs from the marans. I snowblow a path and they do come out. I toss hay in front to keep their feet warm but they still venture into the snow. Crazy birds.



As for the record setting cold, prayer can help, but the good lord knows what's best. He is a buckler to all who trust in him you know.

Sort of like when the Princess suggested to our doctor that I might suffer from anxiety. His response, "From what I can see George is far more likely to cause anxiety than to suffer from it." My doctor knows me well.
