Coffee's ready...

Up early - My life depended on it!
The wee man is away to one of the last respite placements we have so I sure was not going to miss getting him on the bus!
DH is laying on the bed he is not too well again but this comes and goes. Anyhow have to prod him in a bit because we are away to visit his wee sister. We have some things to do for her. She moved back over here from the mainland about a month back. Since her DH passed away in January it has been a tough old time for her. She is settled in now and is doing ok. Though I am taking my own coffee - ( Her's isn't well drinkable! Last time I was there she put three large spoonfulls of instant into a small cup - it was black with the milk in and the spoon didn't even get to the bottom of the cup! - ha ha kept me awake for days!)

Been out to the girls - they get up when I kick them out of the coop! - In the hight of the summer I have left the door open but trouble is we had ferile cats about the place so I relented and had to close it over again. Also the little darlings were getting up at 4 am and Amber was pretending to be a rooster. - I am pretty sure the neighbor was pushing the cats over the fence!

Now I try to boot them out between 8 - 10 am depending on what drama or crises overtakes me at the time! I rather like the chicken run to hide in and it is not the same when there are - well Chickens in it!

Amber is marching up and down the coop right now screeching and hollering - poor thing her neck is going to get stretched if she doesn't watch out! If only she would chase the wild birds out of the seed - but NO she just gets OCD over the eggs and hides them everywhere and they are not even hers! I honestly don't know how that beautiful little gentle timid fluff ball turned into ....... HER!!!

Oh well I am away to prod DH
need more coffee - think I will go put the kettle on again.

Oes - have a great day

Good morning chicken wranglers,
I cleaned the old coop's yesterday. One will be a clubhouse for the boys and they other will house the chickens that are in the barn right now. I need to separate the ducks and the chickens. The ducks are sooo messy and they actually make me feel sorry for the chickens.
They throw the water all over the run and keep it muddy constantly. Time for change. 11 ducks and 20 chickens makes it much too crowded. The ducks just came out of the brooder last week but they have adapted quickly.
Good luck on the competition sour!
Oes do not prod your man too very hard , he deserves the rest especially if the coffee is that awful!
See y'all on the flip side!
God Bless!

Morning,
I'll be doing the same thing today Karl. Cleaning a coop and moving the turkeys out and moving the meaties in. It will be nice to get them out of the shop.

No rain just humidity from that last "storm", so I am out watering the garden. Had our first string beans the other day. They are a second crop. I'll have to start thinking about processing them. The collard greens have made their present known, Swiss chard is starting to bolt. The kale has been going strong all summer long.

I was thinking of drying some carrots and more kale for winter storage. Does anyone dry fruit, veggies, herbs or meat?
I have done fruit and veggies mostly for back packing, and herbs to cook with.

ose, give our regards to your husband.

Enjoy the day

Morning all,

I was up at 5:30 but got in bed with DW. I've been sleeping upstairs since her Chemo treatments. She has to be careful of getting sick but Lord have mercy she's got the fan going and window open. It gets just to darn cold for me. Plus she's up and down through the night and wakes me up. No sense in both of us not getting any sleep.

She does nap alot through the day.

Gave away seven chicks yesterday and debating getting rid of all of them in favor of saving the money spent on feed for flying south more often. DD called yesterday to say she's expecting #2. She and her husband have been talking about it. We Skype with the grandkids but it's not the same.

Oesd, do you not have coffee beans over there, or are they too expensive? We think we know so much about foreign countries over here and we sure don't.

Karl, I got 5 Blue Swedish this spring and man were they a pain to raise up. Messy, messy , messy! I traded them for 7 C. Rock chicks, thinking to get more ducks another time. I didn't have a separate coop and not looking forward to cleaning after them. I figure they'd need it more often than chickens.

Que, I just never was good at growing carrots. I've got Scarlet runners planted for aesthetics. They just look nice and are fast growing. I've grown beans but I'm not big on them. My garden is a disaster this year.
I've hung herbs to dry but they never got used and I just don't know how to deal with them. When do I chop them up and put them in a jar? After one week, a month? Too much to figure out. I bought DW one of those sets to freeze cubes of herbs but she's not going to do it I'm sure. I'll have to do it myself.

Well I'm off to the Fair again today with my DD's and GD. I said I didn't want to go but DW got all upset, saying the girls will be very upset if I don't go. I don't like to leave DW alone. She complains I smother her. God only knows what she'll do without me.

Rancher

Yes we do have beans but sadly My SIL only gets instant as she does not drink coffee! We have to convert her to the real thing! - DH was fine once up. We are both very sore today for some reason but got through and SIL was so glad of a bit of help. Hard for her without a man about to do all those little man jobs. Still a few more things accomplished and she is well settled in her new home you would think she had been there ages not a few short weeks.

Anyhow we had a great day so far but are home to rest I think and put the old toes up for a bit.

Oes

Oes, glad all went well. Some times we need a little push to get the engine started. Now that all is done for the day a fine cup of Coffee we a wee bit of the grain in it to sweeten it up. Being a Donovan I always liked a little Irish in my coffee. It does help one to relax.

OK Que and Rancher. What do you do with kale? We boil/steam sometimes with a little bacon and nutmeg, but other than boiled what do you do with kale?

GK is in FL. Separation is tough We cut the distance in 1/2 by our move down here but hasn't improved the visiting and the road still only run in one direction if you know what I mean.

I know exactly what you mean. It's a bit frustrating at times. The Princess is a far more giving person than I am.
