Coffee's ready...

Morning! I ran out of regular coffee so some of what I made is with decaf grounds, and that's no good. I may run an errand later and get some full-octain coffee somewhere. Weather is the usual - hot, with a chance of rain later. Your weather sounds so nice, Kaj.
I think I'll put off planting the garden for a few more weeks. I'll at least get the old stuff cleared out today an shovel some rabbit poop and composte into it.
I've never heard of canning apples. My mom used to dry them - or make applesauce and can it. Let us know how that turns out.
Have a good one - gotta get busy on the mounds of laundry.

I have great coffee todayThe kind that someone else had waiting for me when I woke up. Up early already took care of ALL the chickens anf DH is cooking breakfast for the family. Have to cut grass and plant some willows down the property line then a bonfire for the kids. I also plan to just sit and watch my chickens as often as I can thru the day. Have a great day everyone!!

There is a thread on Byc that I have been following about making ummmmmm Crock pot apple butter. Towards the end of that thread,
somebody posted pictures of the stuff she had canned from the recipe - --

1.) Apple butter
2.) Apples for apple pie filling
3.) Apple sauce for things like ice cream.

I can't wait to try it myself. If you try it - - -PM me and let me know how it turns out for you.

Morning - sounds funny saying that as it is 14.06 here as I write this! We are a wee bit ahead of you all.
I have just had about my 6th coffee. We got up late this morning just couldn;t be bothered to get out of bed I think. Then we did a bit in the yard. Dh cut the grass which was wild! Then we let the chickens out to free range for a while. though someone said that Rhubarb is poison to them and I get worried about them going down the back end as we have loads down there! We just got a load of fruit trees and bushes - blackcurrent, rasberry and goosberry so will have to find homes for them. The grape vine has let us down again I fear this year as it looked to be heavey with fruit but they have not swelled up and now the weather is changing it is begining to go orange and lose its leaves. Doesn;t look good for fruit this year -

We moved one of the chicken pens and threw Bertha out of her run. She spent some time in the yard and dust bathed. It was good to see as she is covered in mud were Duck and Nugget the roo boys sit on her all the time. She wont give up being mum to them they are spoiled rotten. While she was out with her chicks I grabbed young Betty the runt and lifted her into the other coop with Blue and Omlet the hand reared ones. She is small and is getting pushed aside when the big Roo boys and her big sister mayble ( Who does miss her!) get food and she is failing a bit. So we decided to move her with the other two who are a week younger. She squealed for a bit but is settled now and Bertha didn;t even notice her gone. Bertha is a bit of a mess right now and is way out of condition. The three big chicks she still has with her are 13 weeks old now. I gave that lot layers for the first time today and I am going to try to biuld little Betty and the other two up and try to get them a good size. The big Roo duck is massive now and getting a bit wild! He would certainly pack at the others. I can;t wait to put him in the hen pen and let him see what bullying feels like!!!!!!! I just know our Gerty will clip him good!

Anyhow DH has just gone to pick up my long lost DS and his Partner they are staying till Monday I think? So I will away and sort for them landing in.

Oesdog - or maybe I will just put the kettle on again?

Hi folks busy day today, Paul came to do some work and Darcy came home today. Oh what a beautiful baby. She's the new wallpaper.

Posted some pics of chickens on the SDWD posting if you'd like to take a look. Chickens from the NYS Fair.

The new BY poultry has a wormer called Vermex advertised. Has anyone tried it? It has no egg withdrawl.

Is that the wormer that is has been used in England for years, but we haven't been able to buy it here in the US ? ?
Dang it, I wish you had asked this question BEFORE today. I just wormed my girls with wazine today and will follow up in another 10 days with safegaurd. All my girls got their FLea and tick dip today too. YESTERDAY, I cleaned and bleached and sprayed their coop.

NO SIGNS of BUGS or WORMS . . . .just preventative. I worm 2 x a year. I Dip every 90 days. TOTAL Coop clean out - - twice a year too.
How about the rest of ya'll ? ?

I have a friend who does NOTHING with his birds. He just shakes his head over all that I do.

Morning People,
I must have been asleep when I made this coffee, it's strong enough to clean my teeth. I have extra for everyone.

Weather: Heat is moving back in upper 80's to low 90's, clear. Woke up to 52 deg.

Math Ace: "I have a friend who does NOTHING with his birds. He just shakes his head over all that I do." - I have to agree with your friend. I replace the shavings and clean the coop 3 - 4 times a year. The run is cleaned in the spring and again in the fall. The better half took care of bumble foot a hen had.

Picking and processing the last of the sauce tomatoes today. Going to try the Rhubarb BBQ sauce today.

Enjoy the day

Kaj

Hi - Mornin !

- I don;t do that much to our coop. We clean the poo out once week/fortnight and in winter put extra hay in. Wood shavings on the floor tend to obsorb most of the yuk! We have a platform under their Roost and I put shavings on that and hay over the top and once they have pooped for a week I just go in and litterally roll it up like a carpet and throw it. The shavings under that are usually still fine and the laying boxes in the bottom are really easy to clean too in the same way. We do however do a full cleanout and spray in the spring and fall, treating everything for mites etc. Other than that we don;t do that much.

I have the family here today and so am up to my eyes with cooking etc. My day is a bit further on than yours! I will have 12 for Dinner I think plus the little baby Jessica.

We have been working on getting the yard sorted a bit. I sure would like to have another BBQ but the weather here is changing and there is a deffinate chill. the Rhubarb is sooooooooooooooooooo much I am not sure what to do with it at times? BBQ sauce yum! - Wish I could come to your BBQ!

Anyhow I guess I better go its 11.39 am here and My son and his partner are still in bed - want to tip them out but not so easy when they are the wrong side of 25yrs heading 30 is it!

Oesdog -
